The European Biodiesel Board (EBB) is a non-profit organization established in January 1997 grouping the major EU (European Union) biodiesel producers. The EBB promotes the use of biodiesel in the European Union (EU) and participates to the elaboration of the EU policies in the field of energy, climate change, renewable energies, transport, agriculture, and any other policy relevant for biodiesel.

Job Description

To support the work of EBB in the field of standardisation, REACH, and technical and regulatory affairs, we are looking for a Technical and Regulatory Affairs Associate. We encourage applications from candidates with unusual professional backgrounds, although a scientific background is desirable.

Skills and requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering; chemistry or chemical engineering a plus.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field (science or engineering not essential).
  • Interest, experience and/or qualifications in chemistry for the automotive, industrial, and environmental sectors.
  • Interest in gaining experience dealing with REACH.
  • Good understanding of the EU policy and/or standard making processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to present technical information in simple terms.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Drive to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and networking skills.
  • English is the working language of EBB, additional EU languages are a plus.
  • Right to work in Belgium.

Participate in the representation of EBB’s interests in the European Commission technical working groups and international standards bodies such as CEN.

Work under the supervision as part of the Technical and Regulatory Affairs team, liaising with European Institutions and key stakeholders in the EU biofuels chain, automotive and transport industries, and NGOs.

Assist the Secretary of the Technical Working Group in ensuring the coordination of the EBB Technical Working Group and in collaboration with the Chairperson. 

Participate in the work of the policy and communication team, developing accessible and engaging technical communications material. 

Work under the supervision as part of the Technical and Regulatory Affairs team conducting technical analysis of relevant European directives and European Commission legislative proposals, identifying and developing strategic policy and lobbying positions.

Assist the Technical and Regulatory Affairs team as they support EBB member companies on technical issues, ensuring their compliance with and awareness of changes to European standards and directives.

Assist those administering the EBB REACH Consortium under the supervision of the Reach Steering Committee, helping ensure the Consortium functions smoothly. Part of this work will be helping organise important events such as the EBB REACH Consortium General Assembly.

Assist with general office administration, including organising key events such as the EBB General Assembly.   

Terms and conditions:

Duration: 4 months with possibility of extension

Reimbursement: €800 pcm (final offer subject to discussion)

Beginning of employment: Late September/October 2022
