About AMBER Alert Europe

AMBER Alert Europe, the European Centre for Missing Children, is a foundation that strives to improve the protection of missing children and empower children by raising awareness on the issue of missing children and its root causes. In order to contribute to a safer environment for children, we are connecting experts from 44 governmental organisations, in particular ministries of the interior and police forces, and non-governmental organisations from 28 European countries. Our activities cover prevention and awareness-raising, training, research, and child alerting, as well as launching initiatives aimed at impacting national and EU policies and legislation in the area of children’s rights.

Job description

In your role as EU Affairs Coordinator, you will join our team and work with us to strengthen our ties to the European institutions and relevant organisations in the field of missing persons. The task at hand will be to translate complex EU procedures into more everyday, understandable language for the general public, and vice versa, to translate our initiatives into the level and format appropriate to institutions. By exciting your conversation partners about our projects, activities, plans, and visions, you will help expand our organisation’s reach, putting missing children’s issues closer to their focus and agenda. Furthermore, you will actively monitor and analyse the EU agenda and planned activities on their relevancy to our organisation. As EU Affairs Coordinator, you will be the one carrying out and pushing forward our organisation’s programs and strategic plans. Additionally, you will meet and liaise with many policymakers, partners, and experts, and actively represent our organisation.

Who are you?

You are highly experienced in the field of EU Affairs, in particular in the area of Justice and Home Affairs, and have a good understanding of human rights and children’s rights. You are a team player and optimistic by nature – believing that with time, energy, smarts, strategy, and sheer will, you can change the world. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to create that change. You know your way around in the EU Institutions and are a skilled networker – establishing contact and building solid relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You have excellent skills in oral and written communication and are familiar with the drafting of strategic documents.

  • You have a Master’s degree in law or political sciences.
  • You have four or more years of working experience in the EU institutions or in working with EU institutions while representing your country.
  • You have an excellent understanding of the decision-making processes of the EU Institutions and have been actively involved in these processes. Preferably in relation to DG Home and/or DG Just.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communications skills, proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration.
  • You have an excellent knowledge of English - written and spoken, additional languages are an asset.
  • You have proven research and analytical skills, ability to process and summarise complex information.
  • You have strong organisational skills, ability to work independently or in a team, to take initiatives, and to meet deadlines.

What can you expect?

  • A very interesting job in which you can contribute to saving children’s lives.
  • A full-time position (40 hours) with lots of room for creativity, new ideas, and personal input.
  • A competitive salary with many benefits including a contributory pension.
  • 38 PTO days based on full-time employment.
  • A fun, ‘Google-esque’ workplace in Maastricht and possibility to work from Brussels after the induction period.
