Internship –Strategic Communication/Events Support (CISL Belgium)

Location: Brussels

Fixed-term role (6 months)

Expected start date: Monday 6th January 2025

We have an exciting opportunity to join us at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) in our EU office as a Communications/Events Intern. This is a great opportunity to join our dynamic team working on EU climate, energy and industrial policy, engaging with progressive businesses and European policy makers, in a fast-paced environment. Our mission is to support the transition to a sustainable and climate neutral economy, through the development of ambitious and effective policies.

This role sits within our CISL Europe office, which works at EU, member state and international levels to deliver influential projects that include Corporate Leaders Group Europe, the Materials & Products Taskforce, the We Mean Business Coalition, the EU Green Growth Partnership, and a group of national business networks.   

The team is looking for an intern to support our social media communication on EU climate, energy, industry and nature policies related communications, as well as provide broader office support, especially for events. The intern would liaise with our policy team in Brussels and communications leads in Cambridge. They would benefit from training opportunities as well as engagement directly with campaigns, Brussels and international stakeholders and businesses.

We are interested in an individual who has a communication/events background with an interest in advocacy and policy on sustainability and in building their experience around strategic political communication. This person should be capable of working autonomously and keen to support the impact of our small team in Brussels.  

 
The role entails the following: 

  • Create communication content around set-piece events and reports across policy and research teams. This includes communication packages, data collection for annual reports, op-eds, blog posts 
  • Support social media management, planning, monitoring and reporting; 
  • Support the development of multimedia and graphic content such as visuals, infographics, videos, publication layouts, photo banks; 
  • Support the organization of events both internal and external (managing invitations & target lists, support outreach to speakers, preparation of the event, staffing of the event).  
  • Draft news items for the CLG Europe/CISL websites based upon research and political events. 
  • Support the management of internal databases such as our stakeholder lists and our Client Relationship Management (CRM) software.  
  • Attending events and meetings, supporting communications where appropriate. 
  • Manage content and support updates to the website and database; 

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and should ideally demonstrate the following skills and experience: 

  • Studies in political communications, journalism/press, marketing or media relations, and/or in political science; 
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills. 
  • Experience of event management, ideally with a mixture of online and in-person events. 
  • Solid understanding of social media (Twitter / LinkedIn / Zoom or similar online communication platforms etc.) and other visual tools (Canva) Graphic design and video and photo editing skills are welcomed.  
  • Experience and understanding of social media reporting tools.  
  • Ability to work on own initiative, be flexible and manage competing priorities. 
  • Team-minded, flexible and with a consensual approach and able to work well in a small team. 
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English. 
  • Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent. 

The following attributes are desirable: 

  • Understanding of climate, energy and sustainability issues. 
  • Good awareness of the European policy process. 
  • Good analytical skills with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Understanding and experience of the business sector. 
  • Internship or experience in a European institution or on EU policy. 
  • Additional European language skills. 

 

The team has an office in Brussels with a mix of physical presence at the office and teleworking during the week.

This post is fixed-term for a period of 6 months and the contract will fall under the terms for a paid Brussels “Convention d’immersion professionnelle – Professional immersion agreement”.
