The role
As EU Public affairs officer, you will hold a strategic position within AFG’s teams, working inclose collaboration with the Deputy Director and the Director of EU andInternational Public Affairs. Based in Brussels, you will be at the heart of European policy-making and international developments affecting the assetmanagement industry.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Shaping and driving AFG’s public affairs strategy at both EU and International levels, across a broad range of regulatory and policy issues.
- Monitoring EU and analysing political and regulatory developments, identifying their impact on the asset management sector
- Representing AFG in meeting with EU stakeholders, and industry peers, preparing briefings and delivering clear, effective advocacy.
- Contributing to AFG’s visibility and influence through strategic outreach and relationship building.
- Collaborating closely with AFG teams in Paris, ensuring seamless coordination and information flow.
- Being based in Brussels, with regular travel to Paris
AFG in a few words
AFG represents the +700 asset management firms in France that invest over EUR 5 trillion in the economy on behalf of households, employees, pension funds,charities, corporates and public institutions. Since more than 60 years, AFG defines the rules of ethics for the profession, actively contributes to the development of regulations and plays a leading role in corporate governance.
AFG is involved in long-term missions such as the competitiveness of the Paris place; the positioning of France on the European and international stages; sustainable finance and all ESG-related matters. It is committed to diversity, financiale ducation and supports long-term savings to enable retail investors to beactors in the economy.
France is the leading place in the EU when it comes to sustainable finance. More than 70% of the investment are made in the EU (with 35% in France, 35% out of France).
The AFG is chaired by Philippe Setbon. Fannie Wurtz is vice-president in charge of Europe and International, Mirela Agache Durand, vice-president in charge of ESG and long-term saving and Guillaume Dard, vice-president in charge of taxation and competitiveness.
Laure Delahousse is the General Director of AFG and Delphine de Chaisemartin is the Deputy General Director.
The EU and International department
- The Brussels team (4 members), based in Brussels, is in charge of AFG’s engagement with EU and international policymakers, industry peers and networks. It plays a central role in implementing AFG’s public affairs and advocacy strategy at the European and global levels.
- The International Promotion team, based in Paris, focuses on promoting Paris as a world-leading hub for asset management and supporting AFG members in developing their international business activities
Profile
- Experience: + 2 years in EU public affairs.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of EU institutions and strong understanding of EU financial policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Analytical skills: Proven ability to assess complex policy issues within their political and regulatory context and to develop and implement effective engagement strategies.
- Interpersonal skills: Strong communication and relationship -building skills. Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels, listen actively, and build consensus.
- Written communication: Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and targeted documents for both internal and external audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently across multiple projects.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and French. Proficiency in another EU language is an asset.
Background
- Degree in political science, economics, finance, international relations, law or other related fields
