Internship – Projects and Policy (CISL Belgium)

We have an exciting opportunity at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) in our EU office as a Projects and Policy intern. Join our dynamic team working at the intersection of EU climate, energy, and industrial policy, engaging with leading businesses, financial institutions, and European policymakers in a fast-paced environment.
Our mission is to support the transition to a competitive, resilient and sustainable economy, through the development of ambitious and effective policies. This role sits within our CISL Europe office, which works at EU, member state and international levels to deliver influential projects that include Corporate Leaders Group Europe, the We Mean Business Coalition, the EU Green Growth Partnership, and a group of national business networks.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in advocacy and policy relating to industry and sustainability, and a desire to develop experience in political engagement. A good understanding of EU policies and decision-making processes is essential. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain insight into how businesses and financial institutions engage on key files related to industrial transformation, and how policy action can support the delivery of a competitive, sustainable, and resilient economy.
The role entails the following:
- Supporting the organisation and delivery of internal and external events, including roundtables, workshops, and public events
- Managing invitation lists, stakeholder targeting, speaker outreach, and event logistics
- Supporting outreach to key stakeholders, including EU policymakers, businesses, and NGOs
- Assisting in organising bilateral and multilateral meetings with external partners
- Working alongside the team, monitoring key EU policy files related to the Clean Industrial deal, energy transition, sustainable finance, and the post-2030 climate and energy framework; and carrying out desk research
- Preparing briefings, summaries, and meeting notes with strong attention to detail
- Supporting the drafting and publication of communications materials, including website items, policy updates, and social media content
- Assisting in translating policy developments and CISL outputs into clear, accessible messaging.
- Supporting team administration duties such as regularly updating databases, organisation of team meetings and preparation of mappings.
Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and will be expected to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Understanding of the EU policy-making process and the European political landscape, particularly in relation to sustainability and industrial transformation
- Experience in the organisation of events such as workshops, roundtables, or public discussions
- Strong ability to produce clear, concise summaries of policy documents, meetings, and developments
- Experience using communication and social media tools in a professional context
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team
- Educated to at least degree level or equivalent
The following attributes are desirable:
- Understanding of or experience in the business sector.
- Understanding of the sustainable finance landscape
- Internship or experience in a European institution or on EU policy.
- Additional European language skills.
- Knowledge of social media communication tools
The team has an office in Brussels with a mix of physical presence at the office and teleworking during the week.
This post is fixed-term for a period of 6 months and the contract will fall under the terms for a paid Brussels “Convention d’immersion professionnelle – Professional immersion agreement”.
