The Danish Embassy in Brussels is hiring a Commercial advisor (digital/govtech sector) (Local staff contract).
The Danish Embassy in Brussels is hiring a new colleague to work with public affairs and commercial cases for Danish companies and organisations within the digital & govtech sector and other areas – supporting corporate public affairs interest towards the EU institutions and developing the market in Belgium/Benelux. You will join the Trade Council Brussels’ public affairs & commercial team and work closely with our colleagues in The Hague and EU. We are a small, busy and energetic team, working to assist Danish companies in accessing market opportunities to boost Danish cooperation and EU public affairs interest as well as export to the Benelux region.
You have good business insights and a passion for business economics, public affairs, exports, networking and customer relations. You are a team player with drive and initiative who can advise Danish companies on business matters and create value for your clients. As a commercial advisor you will report to the Head of Corporate Public Affairs and Trade. Our team has a strong focus on these sectors: Digital/tech, health/life science, green economy (energy/climate/sustainability), where Denmark has strong business interest. You will work closely with colleagues in the region and contribute to cross-regional projects as a part of the Trade Council’s global sector team structure.
The new advisor will join a dynamic team focusing on creating value for Danish companies and implementing the Danish Government Strategy for Economic Diplomacy. There is significant demand for the services provided by the Danish Trade Council in Brussels. The job comprises direct interaction with Danish SME’s and large companies to assist them in achieving commercial success – with a special attention to the digital/tech/govtech area, which is high on the agenda in the EU and Belgium. Moreover, Embassy communication/SoMe tasks will be part of your work. Some prior expertise with business opportunities in the region or from Denmark will be a significant advantage and so will prior knowledge about EU public affairs (eg. within the digital area). We are a small team and value flexibility as well as readiness to solving tasks outside your main areas of responsibilities. The position requires travel in the Benelux countries and Denmark.
Required qualifications:
- Preferably prior experience from an international company, consultancy work, government related institution or similar.
- A business or academic degree in economics, trade or other relevant combination
- Experience from the digital/tech area, e.g. with public affairs consultancy/commercial work for companies/organisations (EU or Belgian market) will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of how the Danish Trade Council works will also be an advantage.
- A positive, open-minded, results-oriented and pro-active attitude to handling of assignments.
- A structured mindset, good project planning, coordination and communication skills.
- Excellent command of English oral and written is essential.
- Comprehensive command of French and Danish (oral and written) or Flemish are strong assets.
- Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with commercial clients and public contacts.

Employment conditions:
This is a position offered for local recruitment according to compensation levels reflecting local conditions. Depending of the seniority of the candidate, the position will be nominated as commercial advisor or junior commercial advisor. The salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results. The position is a full time employment offered for a fixed term of 24 months with the possibility of extension.
Starting date: 1 August 2023 or soon thereafter.
