Description of the Association:

Specialised Nutrition Europe (SNE) is the voice of the specialised nutrition industry in Europe. Founded in 1963, the Association has more than fifty years’ experience in the development of nutritional science and the application of ethical standards in specialised nutrition.

Specialised nutrition is tailored-made dietary solutions for populations with very specific nutritional needs. These include infants and young children, patients under medical supervision, sportspeople, overweight and obese consumers, and those suffering from coeliac disease.

With 19 national associations as members across Europe, a Brussels-based team and a network of top-notch experts, SNE interacts with stakeholders across Europe and beyond.

Presentation of the job offer:

The SNE Secretary General leads the association’s activities and team. He/ she will proactively and effectively represent the collective voice of the European specialised nutrition industry to European decision-makers and key stakeholders. The successful candidate will have solid leadership skills and a good understanding of European nutrition and health policies.

With a strong focus on excellence, the SNE Secretary General will help inform and guide the strategic direction of the Association as well as be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the secretariat.

Main responsibilities:

Not exhaustively, the successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to the definition of the multi-year strategic roadmap of the Association, addressing the key objectives and actions of the Association, through the General Assembly/ Operational Board meetings;
  • Coordinate the Association’s activities and the implementation of the agreed strategic roadmap and monitor its effective implementation;
  • Be the respected voice and a trusted partner for all specialised nutrition related issues at EU level and beyond;
  • Lead of 3+ staff based in Brussels and potential further staff engaged remotely for specific projects;
  • Develop and lead European advocacy positions and delivery, towards the European Institutions and relevant stakeholders; liaising with policy makers as well as industry and healthcare professional stakeholders;
  • Coordinate the association’s Operational Board and General Assembly meetings, proposing SNE’s priorities, industry policy positions and milestones;
  • Advise the sector on political developments, and proactively recommend possible courses of action, to ensure the delivery of solid and evidence-based industry positions;
  • Develop and implement a high-profile communication strategy, building on existing SNE’s communication tools (website, social media, internal newsletter), media engagement and external representation;
  • Manage and develop the specialised nutrition network in Europe and beyond;
  • Be responsible for interfacing with National Associations, individual members and appointed consultants and various interlocutors;
  • Ensure compliance with Belgian Law and Regulations;
  • Ensure that the financial and operational performance of the association is in line with budget and periodic revisions based on the Treasurer’s guidance;
  • Manage and develop individual development plans for the Brussels-based team, in collaboration with team members.

Profile

We are looking for a candidate with considerable experience in European advocacy and communications and with a keen interest in nutrition and health policies.

The ideal candidate should have a degree in international relations, law, management or political science, and needs to be fluent in both spoken and written English. He/she is likely to have a minimum of 5-8 years broad professional experience in EU affairs.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate affinity for the specialised nutrition sector and possess strong skills and characteristics such as:

  • Solid familiarity with EU political processes;
  • Knowledge of key industry issues and the ‘big picture’ issues that the industry needs to engage with including distinguishing between primary and secondary issues;
  • Track record of strong execution; results driven, ability to also dive into details;
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills;
  • Experience in leading complex decision-making processes;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a sizeable workload; strong project management;
  • Capacity to establish a positive and engaging atmosphere with members and relevant stakeholders and be reliable, solution-oriented, organized, rigorous, and proactive, as well as with strong ethical values;
  • French or Dutch language is a plus (official language for administrative purposes in Belgium).
