Position summary:
The Head of Global Communications will be a key team player working in a matrix with other PPTA leadership to advance the understanding of the plasma ecosystem.  The Head of Global Communications will lead the development of an annual, integrated communications strategy aligned with the core strategic pillar of “Awareness” with support from PPTA’s Global Policy, Patient Access and Communications Committee, Global Communications Head will lead efforts to build trust and reputation through proactive media outreach, online and print communications, website, social media channels, internal and external publications, and key stakeholder outreach events and activities, with a priority focus on Europe. The role will also ensure effective and timely cascade of key information and new developments within PPTA and across member companies. The position will manage a team of four and be based in Brussels, Belgium, and will report to the Head of Global Policy, Access & Communications currently held by the CEO.   
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for the “Awareness” strategic pillar and associated priorities
  • Member of the PPTA Leadership Team
  • Plays a key role in developing content for Association meetings
  • Develop and oversee implementation of an integrated, global communications strategy with compelling and persuasive key messages in support of the strategy with a special focus on Europe and careful coordination with a mature U.S. operation
  • Ensure that members of the Global Leadership Team and PPTA member representatives are briefed on critical issues and opportunities that align to strategy
  • Accountable for internal communications planning and for leading implementation 
  • Manage, mentor and coach the Global Communications Team members
  • Lead implementation of a media relations and digital plan, aligned to the strategy, including nurturing a network of key media influencers, particularly in Europe
  • Oversee all global media issues and coordinate with all regional and global leaders, particularly in coordination with the Head of Global Policy (legal) 
  • Manage all crisis communications in coordination with the CEO and with support from expert members
  • Oversee development, editorial direction, design and production of high quality, effective print, electronic, web and digital communications for publications and as part of outreach for PPTA events
  • Link CEO and senior leadership to influential audiences to promote PPTA’s mission and strategic priorities
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of media interviews, speeches, talking points, articles, testimony, and other communications (i.e., social media presence) for CEO
  • Support other leaders in messaging for their areas of responsibility
  • Accountable for all budgets related to the Global Communications activities, including oversight of any agency support
  • Advanced degree in communications related to health care, especially with experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • 8-10 years experienced in communications, public relations and/or marketing professional 
  • Global/international communications experience
  • Experience in a trade association is an asset, as is knowledge of plasma proteins industry

  • Knowledge of all aspects of communications including public relations, publications, infographics, video development, web site maintenance, social media networks & platforms 
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects
  • Ability to distill and articulate complex issues simply and clearly
  • Solid writing and editing skills
  • Superior verbal communication skills
  • Strong supervisory and team leadership skills
  • Skilled in creating consensus and/ or finding pragmatic solutions
  • Experienced in issues and crisis management
  • Team player, ability to work in matrix organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask, work efficiently in faced-paced environment, adapt well to change
  • Quality-oriented
  • Multilingual, a plus
  • Strategic thinker
