The Communications, Marketing and Events Unit translates the corporate strategy into impactful messages and narratives and delivers them to key audiences through marketing campaigns, media relations, digital communications, social media, events, and publications. Its objectives are to communicate the value of the EBU to its Members and to key stakeholders such as sports federations, national and EU decision-makers and other influencers. The unit also markets the value of Public Service Media to a wider audience.

The role works in close contact with our Brussels office and has a dotted reporting line to the Head of the Brussels Office.

The EBU Brussels office forms part of the Legal and Policy Department and manages the EBU relationship with European institutions and stakeholders. Together with the legal team based in Geneva, it plays a crucial role in developing positions on EU policy initiatives. The EBU Brussels office leads the development of advocacy strategies to achieve the EBU legal and policy goals and supports the promotion of public service media in the EU sphere. 

The Brussels Communications Lead plays a critical role in strengthening the corporate reputation and profile of the EBU in Brussels for the benefit of EBU Members and public service media in general.

The Member Relations and Lead is looking for a

                                             Brussels Communications Lead

The Brussels Communication Lead, primarily oversees all aspects of the EBU's external policy communications in Brussels including, public relations, brand management, print and online presence, Digital communications and partnerships, Social media strategy, visual image and event planning efforts.

She/He develops and implements the annual communications plan in line with the public affairs and corporate communication plans. Asses its success at various points throughout the year.

Work alongside with the corporate communications team to identify opportunities to deliver persuasive communications campaigns and impactful events to highlight the many benefits of the Public Service Media industry to Europe.

She/He develops messaging and materials to be used across all communication channels and events.

She/He also needs to lead media relations outreach and development of media strategies. Develop close relationships with key media in Brussels to secure frequent interview opportunities for the EBU DG and senior management in Brussels and Geneva.

Able to produce accurate and timely information for corporate publications, speeches, briefing notes, in coordination with the corporate communications team in Geneva.

Needs to lead events. Design and organize briefings/ round-tables/ ad-hoc events including developing agendas, finding and briefing speakers, materials, venues, conceptualizing digital elements and programming.

She/He will need, together with the Director of legal and Policy, define and implement appropriate member communication tools and tactics to better reach the legal and public affairs community.

Qualifications: Bachelor's/ Master's degree - In business

Languages: Proficient/Native written and spoken English, and advanced/proficient written and spoke French

Specific Qualifications and Experience

  1. Political Communications, minimum 8 - 10 years of experience in communicating in Brussels;
  2. Deep and sound knowledge of EU Press Corps and EU institutions including decision and policy-making processes, understanding of roles and decision-making criteria within the EU and, to some extent, in Member States;
  3. Demonstrated expertise developing communications campaigns: ideally in the media or similar sector and executing tailor-made communications strategies and action plans to meet specific advocacy objectives;
  4. Superior communication skills as well as a high level of interpersonal skills, in order to build trust with external and internal stakeholders quickly. Be a persuasive communicator with the ability to understand and accommodate diverse views and skills to drive consensus;
  5. Experience managing and delivering successful events in Brussels;
  6. Fluent English spoken and written, at or near native level. Expert drafting skills in English. Good level of French;
  7. Open and reliable with good leadership skills, proper attention to detail, team player and ability to operate in a multicultural team.
