The Climate Parliament (www.climateparl.net) is an international network of Members of Parliament concerned about the climate emergency and committed to accelerating the global transition to clean energy. We work mainly with national legislators in Africa, Asia, the Arab region and Latin America. Among other activities, we organise international parliamentary roundtable meetings at which MPs learn about climate and energy issues, exchange experience, and become part of a network of like-minded colleagues. We have had a major impact on renewable energy budgets, laws and policies in a number of countries.

Over the next two years, we will be collaborating with the European Commission and the UN Industrial Development Organisation on a project to engage African, Arab and small island legislators on issues of climate, clean energy and energy access. The programme will include a series of parliamentary roundtable meetings, each one bringing together around 30 MPs for two days. In parallel, we will be convening meetings in collaboration with other donors.

We are looking for two Network Coordinators based in Brussels. The Network Coordinators will help to identify the best MPs to invite, organise roundtable meetings, manage the Climate Parliament website and social media, and handle administrative tasks. They will help to research and develop action recommendations for the MPs. The salary before tax will be €33,000 per annum. The contract will run to the end of 2021, with the possibility of extension.

Candidates must:

  • Have a relevant university degree.
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English, with good writing skills.
  • Have several years of relevant experience.
  • Get along well with colleagues and work well in a team.
  • Be well organised and self-motivated, able to work without day-to-day supervision.
  • Have the right to live and work in Belgium.
  • Be based in or near Brussels.

In addition, any of the following are desirable:

  • Fluent French. At least one Network Coordinator will be responsible for our work in Francophone Africa.
  • Fluent Arabic.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Knowledge of energy policy.
  • Experience of development work, especially in Africa.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy or climate science.
  • Experience working with the European Parliament.

The Climate Parliament has no central office. Each staff member works from home in their own part of the world, with plenty of interaction with colleagues through Skype and email. You need to be sure that you will be happy working from home. This suits some people, but it doesn’t suit everyone.

Women and people from developing countries are encouraged to apply.

Please email your CV and a cover letter to: recruitment@climateparl.net if possible by 15 February, 2020, and no later than 28 February.
