The European Suppliers of Waste-to-Energy Technology (ESWET) is a Brussels-based association which aims to foster the development and the dissemination of the Waste-to-Energy technology. In particular, the association seeks to raise awareness of the positive implications of the Waste-to-Energy technology, both for the Environment and for the Energy transition.

The association’s work ranges from responding to proposed European legislation with position papers and lobbying campaigns, to organising informative events and holding private meetings with policymakers.

ESWET also serves as a source of information for its members and the general public wishing to learn more about Waste-to-Energy and the relevant technologies. ESWET supports the coordinated lobbying of EU Member States at national level via the member companies.

ESWET provides expert advice and analysis of issues related to Waste-to-Energy to all interested parties with the aim of maintaining a legislative framework that enables Waste-to-Energy to address the EU’s residual waste.

ESWET is located in an office with two other EU associations managed under the umbrella of Clerens.

As a full time Policy Officer (technical background) within ESWET, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and reporting to ESWET members on latest EU relevant technical regulations and standards;
  • Representing ESWET members in technical EU and international fora (BREFs, POPs, standardisation bodies, etc.)
  • Planning and implementing advocacy positions, lobby actions in close ties with ESWET members;
  • Conducting research, analysis and preparing notes and positions for the association;
  • Performing various administrative tasks.

Hard skills

  • University or advanced degree in chemical/process engineering;
  • Prior knowledge of industrial processes in the Waste-to-Energy sector;
  • Prior knowledge and practice of emissions-related legislation is a plus (a.o. NEC Directive, Industrial Emissions Directive);
  • Prior experience in lobbying and EU affairs is a plus;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite; good command of German/French is desirable; additional EU languages are an asset;
  • Good IT skills, in particular regarding data analytics.

Soft skills

  • Ability to take initiatives and organise your work autonomously;
  • Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills;
  • Ability to learn fast and work on a wide range of issues;
  • Appetite for networking, including with opponents.
