The NGO Shipbreaking Platform is a global coalition of environmental, human rights and labour organisations that work to ensure the clean and safe recycling of ships and offshore assets. After 10 years of successful campaigning, the Platform has achieved significant progress including milestone developments such as new legislation at the EU level; criminal liability for the illicit trade of toxic end-of-life ships; and active engagement of the financiers of shipping, including investor divestment from companies with particularly poor practices. The Platform is now looking to build up stronger capacity to effectively promote best practice and snowball a higher standard among stakeholders.
We are seeking a Sponsorship Manager to take the lead on scaling up the Platform’s existing corporate campaign aimed at enhancing sustainable business conduct, and also develop an innovative fundraising strategy, including revenue generating activities and corporate sponsorships. 
Main Tasks and responsibilities
  • Develop a strategy aimed at identifying and gaining access to financial resources, and take the lead on corporate sponsorships and revenue generating activities, including the organisation of a conference on ship recycling in 2021
  • Strengthen and develop strategic partnerships with business stakeholders
  • Undertake general research and market analysis for the development of a corporate campaign strategy and take the lead on the NGO Shipbreaking Platform’s corporate campaign
  • Represent and be a spokesperson for the NGO Shipbreaking Platform at industry forums
  • Assist the NGO Shipbreaking Platform’s Director as necessary
Candidate Profile
  • Significant experience in project management and fundraising for international NGO campaigns
  • Strong organisational skills and experience in project management (monitoring of work plan, managing personnel, and making financial overviews relate to achievements)
  • Experience in event management 
  • Excellent networking skills and a proven established relevant network
  • Effective spokesperson and proven communication skills
  • Knowledge of shipping industry and/or knowledge of waste and recycling issues
  • A strong interest in environmental and human rights issues, in particular corporate accountability and environmental justice
  • Imaginative and innovative thinker with the ability to develop creative ideas and explore new roads in content and finance – not afraid of being an activist
  • Excellent English (preferably also good command of French and/or Dutch)
  • Reports to the NGO Shipbreaking Platform’s Director 
  • Location – Brussels office, occasional international travel required
  • Candidates must be allowed to work in Belgium
  • Two-year contract, with possibilities of renewal
