About the role

The purpose of the role is to ensure that Europe’s power sector functions in an efficient, flexible, clean and competitive manner. The focus of this work is to remove legal barriers to the creation of a clean energy market and to ensure that it complies with environmental standards, minimising its impact on public health, the environment and the climate. Progressive and innovative legal action has the potential to transform the EU energy landscape and to drive investment in sustainable alternatives. A focus of the position is to ensure that European countries implement an energy transition which maximize the use of carbon neutral energy resources and minimizes the reliance on gas during coal phase-outs in relevant countries.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will be fluent in English, have a law degree or equivalent and relevant legal professional qualification in an EU jurisdiction. Significant relevant legal experience in an EU Member State and knowledge of EU energy laws and policies, the functioning of energy markets, and recent policy and legal developments is essential (knowledge of electricity markets is essential, knowledge of gas markets would be an advantage).
