Marketing & Communications Manager

The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for the implementation and development the strategic design and management of a range of internal and external on-line and off-line communication strategies, promoting the ISN and its role as a global nephrology organization. This will be achieved through a combination of corporate communications, public affairs, and e-marketing communication strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director and Directors.

Marketing and communications

  • Lead on the development and implementation of effective strategic communication strategies that build loyalty, brand awareness, and satisfaction.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of communications and marketing strategies that assist ISN in achieving its organizational objectives and helps maximize its message.
  • Liaise with different departments to ensure that an integrated digital marketing and communications plan is in place to support the promotion of each department/activity (Education, Programs, Events, Advocacy, Membership), working with each department to generate new ideas and strategies.
  • Oversee the ISN’s email marketing system, including campaign development and data analysis.
  • Drafting of website and email content in collaboration with ISN copywriter/editor
  • Lead the marcoms team in the development and execution of eblast campaigns
  • Supervise and direct the workflow of marketing and communications activities, facilitating interdepartmental communications and managing external communications.
  • Lead on the planning and implementation of direct marketing strategies including targeting, personalization of messages and measurability, data analysis, profiling and segmentation.
  • Oversee and provide support in the development of various communications tools (websites, apps, etc.).
  • Oversee online communications via newsletters, social media, and eblasts, including developing schedules and setting and meeting deadlines.
  • Review existing strategies and tools and advise on new and potential opportunities.

Branding

  • Manage organizational branding, including overseeing relationships with external vendors.
  • Ensure brand equity and alignment for the organization and its different projects.
  • Produce and regularly update a clear set of brand and style guidelines and policies.
  • Provide final approval (in collaboration with project managers and directors) on all marketing materials, products, and promotions.
  • Oversee the development and updating of the ISN’s marketing and communications tools and templates (such as PPT templates and other communications tools).

Events

  • Manage the organization’s visibility and presence at ISN events and conference (booth design and development, liaising with external vendors, etc.), in line with the organization’s strategy priorities.

Social media

  • Liaise with the ISN’s Social Media Manager to continue to build and maintain ISN’s online reputation, providing oversight and guidance on content and plans.

Team management and support

  • Together with the Business Development Director, oversee and line manage the Digital Communications Officer and the Social Media Manager, as well as any other marketing and communications officers and temporary staff and interns.  
  • Support the professional development of the team to continuously develop skills and expertise and support career development aspirations.
  • Work with the marcomms team to set individual career development goals and annual strategic priorities, including conducting annual evaluation and appraisal processes.
  • Identify and implement tools (with approval from the Business Development Director) to support project and team management.

Budget

  • Lead on the development and oversight of the ISN’s Marketing and Communications budget (together with the Business Development Director), ensuring that programmatic and strategic targets and deliverables are met on time and within budget. 

Required skills and qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • High proficiency in English – preferably mother tongue English with other languages considered an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly skilled in writing clear and concise communications for various communication tools, including print and online (website, emails and social media)
  • Proven track‐record of successful marketing and branding campaigns
  • Proven experience creating targeted content
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience leading projects from idea to implementation (ideally, developing websites for international audiences)
  • Experience managing external vendors and ensuring value for money
  • Strong social and presentation skills
  • Self‐starter, energetic and pro‐active

Technical requirements

  • Proficiency with software applications including MS Office (excel, word, power point, outlook, etc.)
  • Experience developing power point templates
  • Familiarity with on-the-cloud systems such as Dropbox and/or Microsoft 365.
  • Proficiency with CMS (Wordpress, Drupal, and/or Joomla)
  • Solid experience on HTML and CSS
  • Graphic design skills and solid experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign
  • Solid experience managing email marketing platforms (for example, Mailchimp, Pardot), creating campaigns, templates, eblasts, reports, etc.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, creating reports and using insights to inform. Experience with other marketing tools desired.
  • Experience with Google Adwords.
  • Experience with CRM (Salesforce, for example)

The Marketing & Communications Manager reports to the Director of Business Development, MARCOM and Membership and supervises 2-3 team junior team members.

The Society represents a wide international network and provides an efficient platform for timely scientific exchange, debate and dissemination between healthcare professionals around the world. It is also dedicated to addressing the disparity between the developing and developed worlds in the research, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney disease.

The ISN has 10,000 professional members from more than 126 countries.
