The Women Political Leaders (WPL) is the global network of female politicians. The mission of WPL is to increase both the number and the influence of women in political leadership positions. Founded in 2013, WPL is a dynamic organisation, and  strives in all its activities to demonstrate the impact of more women in political leadership, for the global better. WPL events often feature heads of state or government and leaders of major international organisations. Our Brussels office is very international and constantly working on projects with politicians around the world. WPL is an independent, post-partisan, not-for-profit foundation.

Social Media Manager

Reporting to and under the guidance of the Communications Director, the Social Media Manager will administer social media activities and visibility for WPL, WLGF, G2L and any other events, campaigns or communities under the WPL umbrella.

The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

  • A relevant degree with minimum three years’ experience in communications (including journalism, public relations, or related fields)
  • Experience or avid interest in politics, diplomacy or public affairs
  • An innate sense for good stories and a talent for sharp tweets
  • A proven track record of strategic communications thinking and impactful tactical execution
  • Savvy use of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn to engage with targeted communities
  • Knowledge of how to use video to efficiently showcase events or otherwise share stories.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is essential. French, Spanish, Arabic or other major languages very helpful
  • An appetite for dynamic, entrepreneurial organisations where both individual responsibility and teamwork are prized
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member of a multicultural and multilingual team
  • Familiarity with standard office software is a given. Skills with newsletter services (MailChimp), CRM (Salesforce) are a plus.

Working in line with the company direction, standards and to the best of their ability, the jobholder tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Outline social media plans for various initiatives in line with the organisation’s communications objectives, set goals with the Director of Communications to increase brand awareness and increase engagement
  • Propose appropriate social media channels to secure brand and message penetration for  the company’s target audiences
  • Develop online reputation and brand awareness for all activities of the organisation and its sub-committees
  • Define and manage social media content
  • Create social media campaigns in cooperation with other directorates of the organisation and in conjunction with traditional media activities
  • Administrate the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content
  • Ensure the implementation of an editorial content calendar for all communities, campaigns and events in a timely manner
  • Form key relationships with influencers across the social media platforms
  • Manage, stimulate engagement and facilitate social media communities by developing discussions
  • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video and written).
  • Oversee design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, landing pages, Twitter profile, Linkedin, etc.)
  • Design (with creative design manager), create & manage social media campaigns
  • SEO (search engine optimization) and generation of inbound traffic
  • Become an advocate for the company in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
  • Educate other staff on the use of social media (in-house roles) and promote its use within your company and communities
  • Ensure regular measuring, analysis and report of the activities to line manager and the rest of the organisation
  • Suggest regular review of the organisation’s social media strategy in line with upcoming social media trends to ensure higher impact and reputation of the organisation and its communities.
