The Sahel Alliance has been created on July 13, 2017 to coordinate the actions of its members. The Alliance aims to strengthen coordination and focus on key sectors; improve efficiency, rapidity and proximity through innovative methods; strengthen development aid accountability in the Sahel. Alliance donors are active throughout the Sahel, including in the most vulnerable zones. The Alliance focuses on supporting structures closest to populations, working most intensely with local authorities, the private sector, farmers' and village associations, and NGOs.

The Alliance is a group of 12 donors organized around 6 thematic pillars, each of which is piloted by one of the 6 founding members: Agriculture-food security (African Development Bank); Decentralization-basic Services (Germany); Youth employability (France); Energy and climate (World Bank); Governance (UNDP - United Nations Development Programme); Internal security (European Union).

The Sahel Alliance Coordination Unit, based for the past year at the Agence Française du Dévelopement (AFD) ensures the management and coordination of the Alliance and will be passed on to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in 2019-2020, in the context of a rotating mandate. The Coordination unit will be based in Brussels.

The tasks of an Office Manager/Assistant include:

  • Assist the Director and members of the unit to optimize the management of their activity
  • Manage scheduling
  • Organize travel
  • Organize meetings
  • Organize events internal to the structure (conferences, seminars…)
  • Organize and coordinate internal and external information related to the activity and functioning of the structure (list and contact details of focal points, spokespersons, partners, G5 Sahel country stakeholders…).
  • File interl documents (purchases, contracts…)
  • Assist the team in mainnataining management processes (purchasing, invoicing, budget monitoring…)

The following qualifications and experiences are required:

  • At least three years of experience in secretary management or business administration;
  • Interpersonal skills;
  • Adaptability, flexibility;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Priority management, reactivity, organization, initiative;
  • Good skills in oral and written expression, ability to synthesize information; 
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); 
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and management.
  • French/English both fluent (in writing, reading and speaking). German is an asset.
  • Work permit for Belgium

We offer you a temporary contract with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Brussels under Belgian law. The position will be remunerated according to the level of experience. In addition to the legal holidays, you will receive 5 extra days of holiday per calendar year, as well as lunch checks, health insurance for hospitalization and the reimbursement of a monthly ticket for Brussels public transport.

  • Work place is Brussels.
