A Day in the Life as a Director…

As a Director in Strategic Communications (Public Affairs in Healthcare & Life Sciences), you will work on different client accounts, as well as lead some of these, guide junior colleagues and support senior colleagues in building new business opportunities. You will be based in Brussels. Responsibilities will include:

Deliver to Clients

  • Support/lead on a number of programmes, including both retained and project work, ensuring that client programmes are agreed and project plans are implemented
  • Own client relationships with limited senior supervision; creatively preparing and delivering the client programme
  • Provide strategic advice to a portfolio of clients, manage account on a day-to-day basis and develop excellent relationships with client group. Focus on client retention through exemplary service delivery
  • Anticipate potentially difficult situations and be able to evaluate alternatives with senior executives
  • Ability to analyse institutional and regulatory milestones, drafts and other proposals in order to build strategic tailored advice for clients.

Build the Business

  • Seek out new business leads and help convert them to profitable clients
  • Work alongside other senior members of the team on business development activities such as pitch preparation and delivery
  • Look to expand the portfolio through business with existing clients and the broader FTI group

Team Involvement

  • Project line management for the team working on your clients
  • Knowledge sharing and mentoring junior team members
  • Develop relationships with other teams within Strategic Communications and FTI

Networking

  • Proactively network with EU contacts and stakeholders as well as potential clients
  • Maintain and build further networks on specific Healthcare & Life Sciences policy areas (within EU institutions specifically).

What Are We Looking For? 

  • Strong academic background
  • Proven skills in public affairs, advocacy, issues and reputation management in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector
  • Excellent understanding and experience of working with policymakers and stakeholders in Brussels and in national capitals to further strategic objectives
  • Strong knowledge of the Healthcare & Life Sciences sector, regulation and policy discussions
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a consultancy, in-house, trade body, public institution or advising clients on policy and communications issues
  • Excellent English with one or two additional languages preferable

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to help translate complex concepts and issues
  • Excellent analytical skills and first class writing ability for political and media audiences
