  • The post of Research Analyst is located within the WCO Research’s Unit and the post holder reports to the designated official within that Unit.
  • He/she assists with the management of the Research Unit’s internal and external research and communications activities.

Main functions


  • Conduct, develop and produce written research on Customs matters, international trade topics, development issues and other matters related to WCO work.
  • Organize and manage research events such as the PICARD Conference, seminars and workshops.
  • Network with researchers and policy analysts in academia and government.
  • Edit and proofread draft research documents.
  • Manage and update research-related Web sites and online tools.

Communications, Events and Strategic Planning

  • Co-develop the annual WCO Annual Report, including writing, editing, research and design.
  • Providing assistance to the Office of the Secretary General : replacing the Assistant to the Secretary General during his/her absence, drafting and following up miscellaneous correspondence sent to Members, international organizations and the private sector.
  • Contributing to the drafting and proofreading in English of information and promotional documents submitted as appropriate and required, as well as updating texts, documents, files and presentations falling within the Research Unit’s remit.

Key skills and job requirements

  • Applicants for this post must have completed at least a University degree in a subject of relevance to the job requirements, or possess an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years’ professional experience in the areas described above.
  • Proven drafting abilities and excellent presentation skills in English and French (both written and spoken).
  • Meticulous, methodical and attentive to details. The applicant must be a team player capable of working under pressure in a multicultural environment and completing tasks within the deadlines set.
  • In-depth knowledge of standard office automation applications, including Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Access.
  • The person appointed will be required to perform such other duties as may be assigned and may be subject to reassignment within the WCO Secretariat.
