Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION


To provide strategic leadership, and optimise influence and resources in World Vision’s relationship with the European Commission, parliament and other EU institutions. The postholder will work closely with World Vision offices in European countries and with World Vision colleagues in other regional and international offices.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build on our existing relationships with European institutions, to maximize World Vision’s advocacy influence
  • Work with World Vision offices in other European countries to increase our fundraising from official European institutions, and other funding sources
  • Provide vision, strategy and leadership in World Vision Brussels engagement with the Commission, parliament, other official EU bodies, Brussels-based civil society networks and media
  • Maintain and build relationships with World Vision offices in Europe, and in regional and international offices, and participate in World Vision internal networks and bodies
  • Lead the development and implementation of WV International’s global capitals strategy in Brussels and ensure it meshes with other relevant strategies across World Vision
  • Lead the development and implementation of the offices strategy and plan, including recruitment and management of staff, and management of budget and infrastructure in line with World Vision’s core documents and values

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of the European Union’s institutions and processes, especially in the development and humanitarian fields
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Advocacy
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of development policies and practices
  • Education to Master's degree level, preferably in international development, political science, international relations; or business with a core in international management.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership ability
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, and influence and manage effectively in a large international and multicultural organization
  • A strong grasp of business development, marketing and financial management concepts and principles and how they apply to the international development sector
  • Proven relational and networking abilities
  • Fluent in English and French; other European languages desirable
  • The post-holder will be encouraged to maximize his/her talents, and use creativity and innovation in developing the office
  • The post-holder will need to demonstrate genuine sympathy with World Vision’s Christian ethos, mission, and core values
