Wildlife Conservation – Project Lead (Lawyer)

Biodiversity Programme – Brussels

We are looking for a lawyer for this exciting and challenging role to lead, develop and deliver ClientEarth’s Wildlife Conservation Project.

The project will combine legal, campaigning and evidence-building strategies to:

  • Defend the EU’s nature protection laws from attempts to weaken them (at all levels);
  • Secure ‘biodiversity-friendly’ interpretations of these laws; and
  • Challenge non-compliance, using litigation and regulatory actions.

In this role you will be managing and building a team across ClientEarth’s European offices and also supervising work carried out by consultants or partner organisations in other jurisdictions.

The successful candidate will be a lawyer who can contribute strategic advocacy and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. You are adept at analysing complex legal issues, including litigation strategy. You will have a strong understanding of the principles of EU law, and preferably a good knowledge of EU biodiversity and conservation related policy and legislation. You will be highly organised, an excellent communicator and project manager, and have the skills to build and manage good relationships with external partners, including funders.
