WCO-Inama Project Assistant
Short Term Contract (Up to 22 Months)

Responsibilities

Working within the Compliance and Facilitation Directorate of the World Customs Organization (WCO), and under the oversight of the WCO Environment Programme, the Project Assistant will provide support in the management of the WCO-Inama Project.

The WCO INAMA Project aims at strengthening the enforcement capacity of targeted Customs administrations in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia in order to fight the illegal trade in wildlife (fauna and flora) and in particular in CITES-listed species.

The current WCO Inama Project is a multi-donor funded project. The main project donors are the U.S. Department of State, Sweden, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ).

Under the supervision and guidance of the WCO-INAMA Project Manager, the incumbent will, amongst others focus, on:

  • Ensure the effective administration of the project (incl. processing claims, invoices, drafting letters, logistical arrangements for missions and events);
  • Respond to general queries in relation to activities planned under the INAMA Project;
  • Assist with financial reporting;
  • Organise events (including submitting travel requests according to the WCO procedures);
  • Support the procurement and contracting processes;
  • Support the revision (editing) of training materials;
  • Support the preparation of project related documents;
  • Provide support in conducting research about project related activities;
  • Contribute towards drafting of the project newsletter and other project communication and visibility activities.

Essential qualifications
Education

  • A university degree will be advantageous.

Experience

  • Previous Experience in providing administrative and logistical support in a programme/project context is required;
  • Prevalence will be given to candidates familiar with the functioning of international organisations;
  • Experience with developing projects benefitting Sub-Saharan Africa countries will be beneficial;
  • Experience working with US-funded projects will be beneficial

Competencies

  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both English and French;
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment;
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines;
  • In depth knowledge of MS office (mainly Word, Excel and Power Point);
  • Ability to adapt to administrative and financial tools used by the WCO.

Conditions

  • A maximum of twenty two (22) months contract;
  • Probation period: 3 months;
  • Be located at the WCO Secretariat in Brussels;
  • Salary commensurate to the incumbent’s profile (up to a maximum of 3,000 Euro per month);
  • Salary is exempted of taxes;
  • Basic health coverage;
  • No family relocation is applicable to this position.
