Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a member of the ITER Department of ‘Fusion for Energy’, the Vacuum Vessel (VV) Senior Engineer will directly report to the Vacuum Vessel Group Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will, among other tasks:
• Assist and deputize for the VV Group Leader as required;
• Check technical aspects of the design and procurement of the vacuum vessel, developing detail implementation plans for work, and monitor and control costs;
• Coordinate the engineering analysis and experimental verifications, including interpretation of FE stress analysis and of simulation of welding distortion of the suppliers of ITER Vacuum Vessel components; carry out checking analyses as required;
• Present analysis and justifications to the ITER International Organisation (ITER IO) and the Inspection Authorities;
• Assist in the interfacing and progress meetings, presentations and negotiations with other parties, including ITER‐IO, Inspection Authorities;
• Assist in the representation of 'Fusion for Energy' and the supervision of the technical evaluation of tenders and the negotiations with the ITER Organization and potential suppliers in the process of concluding procurement contracts;
• Draft and supervise the preparation of the technical specifications, coordinate R&D activities, draft procurement arrangements, prepare calls for tenders and ensure the technical follow‐up of contracts for ITER in‐kind procurement of the vacuum vessel;
• Follow‐up the supply contracts of Vacuum Vessel and related tasks;
• Travel in and outside of Europe for meetings, monitoring activities and inspection work, including stays as required;
• Review and check documentation (analysis an experimental reports, etc.) issued by the suppliers and ITER;
• Prepare reports and minutes of meetings and make presentations as required.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

A. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

A1. In order to be eligible the candidate must:
•Be a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union or of a Third state fully associated with the Euratom fusion programme (Switzerland).
• Enjoy his/her full rights as a citizen.
• Have fulfilled the obligations imposed on them by the laws of their home country concerning military service.
• Meet the character requirements for the duties involved.
• Be physically fit to perform their duties.

A2. On the closing date for registration, the candidate must possess:
At least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is four years or more and, after having obtained the university degree, at least 12 years of proven professional experience;
OR
At least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is three years and, after having obtained the university degree, at least 13 years of proven professional experience;
Only study titles that have been awarded by the Members of the Joint Undertaking or that are subject to the equivalence certificates issued by the authorities in the said Member States shall be taken into consideration.

A3. The candidate must possess a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union to the extent necessary for the performance of his/her duties.

B. SELECTION CRITERIA

B1 Essential

• University degree in engineering or equivalent;
• Proven relevant experience related to the fabrication of advanced mechanical components including pressure equipments and systems (at least 8 years of continuous work in a specialised industry);
• Experience in the procurement of components, material and resources, the coordination of engineers team and designers, the management implementation of R&D activities;
• Experience in the implementation of contracts, technical specification for Procurement writing, call for tenders and evaluation of tenders and follow‐up of projects, detailed scheduling of work activities and project control;
• Experience in the supervision and inspection of fabrication, managing interfaces and non conformances;
• Experience in the technologies associated with metallic construction welding, Quality Assurance, and Non‐Destructive Inspection of welds;
• Good management skills, among others, ability to inspire colleagues, to stimulate creative ideas, to encourage staff, to set objectives and give constructive feedback;
• Good communication and organisational skills and ability to work under pressure;
• Good command of both written and spoken English, the working language of 'Fusion for Energy'.

B2 Advantageous

• Knowledge of design and manufacturing issues of advanced nuclear components including pressure equipments and systems;
• Working knowledge of Primavera;
• Record of intensive experience of FEM analysis performed with ANSYS and application to RCC‐MR standard;
• Experience related to the fabrication of advanced nuclear components;
• Working experience in a nuclear industrial environment;
• Working experience in a European or international setting.
