Senior Researcher - Regional Modelling
IPTS - 02 July 2009
Job Description
Project Description
The Knowledge for Growth Unit (KfG) of JRC-IPTS is looking for a senior researcher to work on the regional modelling project. In close co-operation with the Directorate-General for Regional Policy and its external contractors, this project aims at developing a system of regional models for evaluating the impact of EU cohesion policy.
The successful candidate will work on the extension of the model and its underpinning by economic theory, in particular new growth theory, new economic geography and the economics of technological change and innovation, and on the framing of the simulations in terms of EU regional policy. Within the system of regional models that is developed, the choice of the location of economic activity in relation to the infrastructure, environmental qualities and innovation capacity of the EU regions will be a major focus. How this choice is affected by changes in the interconnections and spillovers between regions will be the subject of linked simulations.
He/she should have an academic background, e.g. in geography or regional economics, and sufficient expertise at senior level. His/her list of publications should show a thorough grounding in economic theory, a strong quantitative orientation and an affinity with regional policy.
The senior scientist must have at the time of applying a minimum of 10 years research experience at the post-doctoral level, or a minimum of 15 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a master's degree) in a field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities.
A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
Duration 24 months
