AgriCord is an alliance of “agri-agencies”. Agri-agencies (AAs) are Non-Governmental Organisations for Development Co-operation with structural links to the farmers’ and rural members’ organisations in their home countries, including the organisations of rural women, young agrarians, co-operatives and farmer-led agri-businesses. Agri-agencies support capacity development of farmers’ organisations in developing countries. Twelve agri-agencies are currently involved, from Asia (1), Belgium (2), Canada (Québec, 1), Finland (1), France (2), Germany (1), the Netherlands (1), Senegal (1), Spain (1) and Sweden (1). As a network, AgriCord manages jointly “Farmers Fighting Poverty” programme , this is a comprehensive framework programme for support to farmers’ organisations in developing countries, funded by different donors. AgriCord operates as an alliance, with a small central office in Brussels, Belgium (currently 8 staff). AgriCord organises the international “farmer-to-farmer” cooperation.

AgriCord is looking for a Senior programme manager 80%-100%, fulltime, based in Brussels (Belgium)

The Programme Manager reports to the CEO, and is in charge of the following tasks:

1- Programme management tasks:

  • Follow-up of the programme relations with the back-donors of AgriCord, as assigned by the CEO and by the partnership facilitator from AgriCord. 
  • Planning and monitoring the programme cycle for all contracts under each of the programmes assigned to him/her. Prepare allocation and contracting of programme funds.
  • Follow-up reporting and programme disbursements together with the administrative and financial responsible of AgriCord.
  • Support strategic evaluations of the programme, together with the Content facilitator officer.
  • Liaise with project officers involved within the different implementing agri-agencies.
  • Promote joint learning amongst AgriCord members for the programme.
  • Prepare consolidated reporting on overall programmes. Monitor donor requirements.
  • Ensure overall programme quality.

2- Support the communication activities of AgriCord and of the secretariat:

  • Support the development, coordination and continuous update of website and social media of AgriCord 
  • Develop content for publications and website, together with the Strategic Content Facilitator of AgriCord
  • Coordinate the redaction of the monthly news update from AgriCord
  • Support communication around internal and external events of AgriCord
  • Source relevant information for publications from AAs and joint task forces of AAs
  • Contribute to the consolidated reporting.
  • Contribute actively to a communication strategy development

3- Support to the activities of the Secretariat:

  • Contribute to preparation of funding proposals.
  • Contribute to the overall reporting, communication and organisational strengthening of AgriCord.

We are looking for a person with the following qualifications and experience:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience, including work at international level, in the field of development cooperation, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural/rural development projects and programmes.
  • Proof of autonomous working, taking responsibility and management of processes and programs. Proof of attention for detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to colleagues, members and donors, and an ability to motivate colleagues in different countries and different cultural contexts.
  • Familiar with the organized farmers’ world in developing countries and in OECD countries. Strongly convinced of the role of these organisations for balanced and sustainable development.
  • Experience in process or network facilitation.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading and writing English and French.
  • Other language skills will be taken into account.
  • University degree or equivalent experience in a field related to the work of the organisation.


  • This is a short term assignment till the end of June 2018 – with good possibility of contract renewal/contract indefinite duration.
  • For this position we offer you an appropriate salary, plus fringe benefits such as meal vouchers, end-of-year bonus, extended leave entitlements, group insurance and hospitalisation. Above all, this function gives you the chance to develop your content and actively participate in the support to agriculture and rural life in an international context.
  • Start date is subject to mutual agreement, but should not be later than 1st January 2018.
