Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Director and in collaboration with other Group leaders will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising implementation of the Agro-Food Industry Group’s work programme. In particular, the incumbent will:
- Provide leadership and coordination and supervise staff working in the Agro-Food Industry Group;
- Lead the development of strategies as well as the design and implementation of programmes and projects related to agro-industrial development aimed at improving food security, food safety, agro-enterprise competitiveness and supply chain integration; as required participate in the appraisal of field projects and provide supervision and technical backstopping; ensure the conduct of and lead studies and reviews on technical, policy and programmes issues;
- In collaboration with other Group leaders, ensure effective implementation of the Division’s programme of work as well as field projects in its mandate area;
- Provide comprehensive technical assistance to FAO member countries to support the development of their agro-industries in order to create employment and economic growth and improve food security and assist with reviews and provision of policy, and technical advice;
- Design and implement programmes and projects; as required participate in appraisal of field projects; and provide supervision and technical backstopping;
- Liaise with relevant units within FAO and with other international and private sector organisations regarding technical and policy matters related to agro-food industry;
- Provide strategic orientation, develop methodologies and issue guidelines related to agro-industries development and ensure technical quality of work in agro-food industry;
- Plan and organise expert consultations; lead technical meetings and workshops and represent FAO at international meetings; develop and ensure delivery of training programmes;
- Prepare and edit major technical papers for discussion and publication;
- Represent FAO in the area of agro-food industry development and related issues and lead and participate in missions, task forces and negotiating review teams;
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
- Advanced University Degree in Engineering or Food Technology with specialisation in an area related to agro-industries
- Ten years of relevant experience in the field of agro-industries
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
- Level and relevance of academic qualifications
- Extent and relevance of experience in supporting the development of agro-food industries for economic growth and improving food security as well as create employment in developing countries
- Relevance of experience in providing technical advice on matters related to agro-food industries
- Extent of experience in the development and implementation of strategies, programmes and projects related to agro-food industries
- Extent of managerial skills
- Quality of both oral and written communication skills in English

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
REMUNERATION
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 135,400 US$ 159,549 (without dependants) and from US$ 145,749 to US$ 173,149 (with dependants)
