The European Association of Guarantee Institutions (AECM) is seeking to employ a (m / f) Senior Financial Expert as full-time position.

The 42 members of AECM are operating in 26 countries in- and outside the European Union. They are mutual, private, public or mixed institutions all having in common the mission to support SMEs during their whole business cycle in getting access to finance, thus, to foster economic growth, innovation, digitization, job creation, and social integration. More precisely, they promote SMEs by providing guarantees to them as well as to entrepreneurs and freelance professions who have an economically sound project but do not dispose of sufficient bankable collateral. At the end of 2016 AECM’s members had over 85 billion of guarantee volume in portfolio, thereby granting guarantees to more than 3.1 million SMEs.

Your tasks:

1.     Representing the interests of AECM-member organizations and promoting guarantee instruments towards EU Institutions and multilateral bodies on delegated topics:

  • Monitoring, analyzing and informing members regarding European and international policy dossiers of relevance for the guarantee sector with a focus on the areas of banking supervision and SME policy;
  • Liaising extensively with colleagues and members working on relevant policy files in the areas of banking supervision, SME policy and statistics & studies; determining the developments in these areas that are relevant to AECM’s members;
  • Translating members’ positions into concrete action at all levels: public position papers, consultation responses, best practices, seminars, action plans, etc, thereby drawing together the interests of every member organization
  • Liaising with EU institutions and international organisations such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Investment Bank group, the European Central Bank, the European Banking Authority, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), other associations, etc. on an ongoing basis to exchange as well as to present and promote the views of AECM
  • Producing materials, press releases, talking points, background documents, and other communications for congressional meetings and smart lobbying, produce content for external and internal communication (newsletters, website)
  • Conducting strategic planning in advance of meetings, including meeting goals, and ensure follow-up

2.     Responsibility for statistics and economic surveys:

  • Collecting accurately and analyzing comprehensively data from member organizations and preparing the results for internal and external communication like, for instance, the AECM half-yearly scoreboard, the annual AECM publication facts and figures, the annual survey on market trends of guarantee activities jointly with the Ibero-American guarantee organization REGAR, AECM brochures, etc.;
  • Undertaking member inquiries and surveys requested by members, third parties or of relevance for the work of the association like, for instance, studies and thematic reports on predefined subjects and thoroughly processing and communicating the outcomes;
  • Regular updates of data of AECM’s members published on AECM’s website;
  • Presenting market developments and research findings to members as well as to various stakeholders in- and outside of Brussels like, for instance, to the European Investment Fund (EIF), to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), etc.

3.     Management of AECM working groups:

  • Being responsible for the AECM working groups banking supervision, SME policy and statistics & studies
  • Being responsible for the organization and the management of working group meetings, especially for drafting of the agenda and preparing supporting documents
  • Contributing to the meeting by reporting on latest developments for each topic at EU and international level
  • Drafting the minutes of the meeting and ensuring that agreed upon action points are executed;

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will
  • Hold a University degree in economics, financing, business administration or a related field;
  • Have 3 or more years of work experience in topics of interest for AECM, i.e. in the areas of economic, financial and SME policy ideally in a European / international environment
  • Have experience with guarantee institutions
  • Possess a thorough economic understanding
  • Prevail of excellent follow-up and analytical skills
  • Experienced in working in an international environment and being open-minded
  • Be fluent in English and French, other languages are an asset (especially Italian and German)
  • Have relevant computer skills with Microsoft Office Programs and be able to use statistical enquiry tools
  • Have first class drafting skills, communicating and presenting abilities
  • Have a strong problem-solving attitude and pay superior attention to details
  • Be an effective communicator in meetings
  • Possess excellent diplomatic skills, team spirit and the ability to take initiatives being used to work autonomously and also to collaborate with colleagues where necessary
  • Be able to meet tight deadlines and have the organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in parallel
  • Be flexible and open to work in a small dynamic team
