B&S Europe, BUSINESS & STRATEGIES IN EUROPE S.A., is an international consulting firm based in Brussels since 1991 and member of the GOPA group. Our company provides advice for technical assistance projects in developing and transition countries, particularly to Public and Governmental Institutions. Our main fields of expertise are Institutional Reform and Capacity Building, in areas such as Justice and Home Affairs, Regional and Local Development and Security and Good Governance (including support to civil society, elections, democracy, decentralization processes, etc.).
B&S Europe has managed projects in more than 100 countries worldwide and has a long-standing involvement with clients including international donor agencies, particularly with the European Commission, National Governments and their agencies. 
B&S has also permanent offices in Brussels, Beirut, Pristina and Bucharest representative offices in more than 10 countries. The company employs more than 40 full time staff and relies on a trustworthy and well-experienced network of in-house and external experts to carry out the implementation of projects.

Job Purpose
Directly reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you work closely with the financial team and with operational department teams concerning projects and all other company activities. As part of the financial team, you are responsible for securing and justifying all P&L and B&S accounts as well as to develop and establish accounting validation processes necessary to control projects and all other company activities.
Specific duties and responsibilities 
1. Project Accounting
  • Oversee the P&L and B&S projects accounting input, and be able to present and develop on them in order to issue reliable financial statements
2. General Accounting (Overheads, others)
  • Supervise the work production from the whole Accounting team in terms of quality and respect of deadlines
  • Own and manage company P&L and B&S accounts, including ad-hoc analysis of transactional activity
  • Keep under permanent control the different suspense accounts as well as current accounts – keep cleared client (AR) and vendors (AP) accounts.
  • Manage the Fixed Assets in Maconomy (acquisition, disposal, depreciation…)
  • Manage the payroll accounting and check the permanent alignment with Partena statements
  • In coordination with the Chief Financial Officer, define, perform and document controls related to financial quality and assure quality standard by defining proper procedures
  • Be a key point of contact with external auditors regarding interim and year end annual audit
3. Treasury
  • Supervise the clients dunning and pending invoices
  • Ensure payments to experts/providers are done on time
4. Team work and team support
  • Support internal operational and external financial audits 
  • Interact with departments and project budget holders prior to month-end to ensure accuracy and completeness of accruals related to spending
  • Coach, support and advice (in-depth techniques) junior accountants
  • Provide a high level of customer service within finance and to other business partners, departments and project team members
  • Be the point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure a good collaboration with external auditors

  • Ability to solve problems, take responsibility and add value to the team immediately
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in all situations: face to face, over email and telephone
Qualifications and profile:
  • Degree in Accounting / Finance / Economics - Or other relevant certification
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Fluency in English and French is required. Other languages are an advantage.
  • Experience in managing the financial side of projects and/or working with non-financial staff and departments
  • Able to work autonomously, very well-organized and proactive
  • Knowledge of Winbooks, Isabel or ERP. Proficiency in using Maconomy is a clear advantage
  • Tax knowledge (beyond VAT declarations) and in the optimisation of the existing systems
  • Proficient in using MS Office
