Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It

aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic,

social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The chemical industry is a € 500+ billion industry, providing over 1 million direct jobs and nearly 2.5 million indirect

jobs in Europe. The chemical industry is the “Industry of Things”. The industry's products are essential to 95% of

everything manufactured: hygiene, health, mobility, construction, computers and electronics all rely on the

chemical industry. The sector is also critical to meeting future needs, such as developing energy sources or

managing scarce resources. The chemical industry is essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development

Goals.

Cefic is located in Brussels to represent the industry vis‐à‐vis EU institutions and involve member federations and

companies in European advocacy. We employ more than 150 people.

For its Specialty Chemicals team and one of its major Sector Groups, Cefic is looking for a (m/f)

 

Sector Group Manager

For the Pigments, Dyes, Catalysts & Fillers Cluster

Mission of the role:       

Managing several working groups with representatives of industry in the area of specialty chemicals.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?You will:

  • Coordinate and manage projects in response to key issues in the area of health, environment issues;
  • Identify the relevant issues, propose objectives and priorities and agreeing on action plans;
  • Drive the process of consensus-building and position-taking in order to reach a consensus between all parties involved;
  • Create and manage an effective interface with relevant members, stakeholders and decision-making bodies at the European level;
  • Ensure effective advocacy (contacts with regulatory or policy making bodies) and communication (publications, seminars, websites, extranet) of the industry positions;
  • Establish, maintain and extend the network of relationships and alliances with various industrial players and downstream users;
  • Monitor, analyse and interpret the existing and proposed policies & government legislation and its impact on member company activities;
  • Organise and chair meetings, draft minutes and manage budgets.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional who demonstrates the following experience

and competencies:

  • Academic background: preferably MA or MSc in Science;
  • Minimum 5 years working at European/international level on regulatory and scientific aspects, preferably in the chemical industry and/or with associations similar to Cefic is requested;
  • Analytical thinker;
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Full professional proficiency in English and at least one other European language; additional languages are a definite asset.

Required personal qualities:

  • Strong communication skills: ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of a group; ability to deliver well organised, enthusiastic and convincing presentations and ability to adapt style and language to audience;
  • Ability to write clear and concise texts translating communication from authorities into actions for the members;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate and solve conflicts;
  • Curious mind and eagerness to learn and grow within the Specialty Chemicals cluster;
  • Ability to work independently and in team, with dedication and loyalty;
  • Keen to have fun at work despite tight timelines and changing targets;
  • Ability to identify, recognise and flag problems in a timely manner and focus on solutions;
  • Motivated to represent the voice of industry and influence policy and guidance.
