Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The chemical industry is a € 500+ billion industry, providing over 1 million direct jobs and nearly 2.5 million indirect jobs in Europe. The chemical industry is the “Industry of Things”. The industry's products are essential to 95% of everything manufactured: hygiene, health, mobility, construction, computers and electronics all rely on the chemical industry.   The sector is also critical to meeting future needs, such as developing energy sources or managing scarce resources. The chemical industry is essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cefic is located in Brussels to represent the industry vis-à-vis EU institutions and involve member federations and companies in European advocacy. We employ more than 150 people. Euro Chlor is a Sector Group of Cefic, representing 98% of the chlor-alkali industry in Europe. On behalf of its members, it is active in the areas of regulatory affairs, technology and safety, science and communication

To reinforce the Euro Chlor/Halogens Industry Sector, Cefic is actively looking for an enthusiastic (m/f)

Sector Group Manager

Mission of the role:

The right candidate will act as the sector group manager for the European FluoroCarbon Technical Committee (EFCTC) and the European Chlorinated Solvents Association (ECSA), a product group of Euro Chlor. He/she will be the official representative of both groups in conferences, seminars and symposia and official meetings in order to position, communicate and safeguard the members’ interests at all times. Important topics are climate change and other regulatory issues such as REACH and CLP.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities? You will:

  • Manage the EFCTC and ECSA (sub-)committees on a day-to-day basis: organise the meetings, prepare documentation and write the minutes;
  • Assist the members in developing and implementing policy and communication strategies, as well as strategic objectives;
  • Establish and maintain a network of relationships, links and alliances with other relevant European & International stakeholders, including European officials and downstream users;
  • Monitor and identify relevant (emerging) policy issues legislation on member state, European and international level;
  • Maintain agreed budgets, develop and upkeep association and Cefic policies.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience and competencies:

  • Academic background: at least a master degree in science, chemistry, pharmacy, toxicology or related disciplines;
  • 5 years of relevant experience in an international working environment, for example in the chemical industry or in an international industry association;
  • Knowledge on regulatory & climate matters at the international level, the Montreal Protocol and REACH is an asset;
  • A good understanding of the chemical industry & value chain;
  • Sound advocacy skills and experience with the EU regulatory framework;
  • Full professional proficiency in English; additional languages are a definite asset.
     
Required personal qualities:
 
  • A good team player who is able to work independently and to multitask;
  • Strong communication skills: ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of a group; ability to deliver well-organized, very enthusiastic and convincing presentations and ability to adapt style and language to audience;
  • Good people management, networking and negotiation skills;
  • Good project management and computer skills;
  • Curious, fast learning, service-minded and willing to improve continuously;
  • Ready to travel regularly (10-20%).
