Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Scientific Adviser will support the development and strengthening of EATG activities in the key area of Science and Research, via coordinating science-oriented projects (where EATG is lead or partner organisation) and supporting the work of the European Community Advisory Board (ECAB).
Project
The Scientific Adviser will coordinate science-oriented projects (where EATG is lead or partner organisation). These projects are currently three, all funded by DG Research, European Commission.
Support to the European Community Advisory Board (ECAB)
The Scientific Adviser will support the work of the European Community Advisory Board (ECAB). ECAB is a working group of the EATG; it is a pan-European network of activists, many living with HIV, working together to end the epidemic by advancing research on HIV/AIDS, broadening access to treatment, and training/mentoring new AIDS advocates. ECAB aims to promote the harmonisation of good clinical practice, standard of care and access to best available therapies and diagnostic tools throughout Europe.
The Scientific Adviser will work closely with the ECAB Chair(s) and its Steering Committee, and support them in planning and implementing ECAB work.
Eligibility criteria:
Essential:
- University degree;
- Extensive experience in coordination and management of projects, preferably in a non-profit sector.
- Experience in project monitoring and evaluation;
- Understanding of HIV and AIDS issues, particularly HIV treatment issues;
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken;
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills;
- Understanding and experience of fundraising for non-profit organisations;
- Ability to effectively communicate and liaise with many different groups, communities and nationalities, and operate in a range of different cultural, social, economic and political environments;
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize;
- Ability to work independently, but also as part of a team;
- Excellent self-organization abilities;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Prepared to travel and occasional weekend work.
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of other European languages, both written and spoken;
- Experience with DG Sanco funded projects
Appointment and conditions of employment:
The successful candidate will receive an indefinite contract, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
The salary scale: 2.500 – 3.200 Eur gross/month (depending on experience)
Location: EATG’s secretariat in Brussels, with frequent travel
Start: As soon as possible, preferably before February 9th, 2009
