The Institute of International and European Affairs, a leading independent think-tank based in Dublin, Ireland, is seeking a full-time researcher in Energy policy.  The researcher will report to the Director of Research as part of a research team.


The successful applicant will provide expert level policy analysis and manage the portfolio on Energy policy taking account of the European Green deal.

The main responsibilities of this position include:

  • Awareness of significant policy actions and legislative proposals in Energy policy and the European Green Deal at EU and international, and national level;
  • Familiarity with research in the policy area in relevant academic and policy institutions;
  • Organisation of a programme of sponsored keynote addresses, seminars and workshops with high-level policy makers and thought leaders as part of the IIEA’s events programme;
  • Creation of regular briefing notes on the European policy developments;
  • Contribution to IIEA publications and reports;
  • Liaising with the chairs and members of the IIEA Energy and Climate working group and minuting meetings;
  • Support for the group chairs as necessary;
  • Maintenance of dense network of contacts in relevant government departments and relevant organisations in Dublin, Brussels and with relevant expert agencies;


  • 1st class or high 2.1 post-graduate degree in related field such as European Studies, Law, Political Economy or Political Science;
  • Strong credentials in energy policy, knowledge of European Green deal as well as current developments in European Affairs;
  • 2-3 years’ work experience in related field;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills;
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency; editing and proofing skills;
  • Ability to multitask and strong organisational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with high-level visiting dignitaries and distinguished members of the IIEA.
