VDZ is an internationally renowned scientific institute which focuses on practical research and on providing an extensive service portfolio in the field of cement and concrete. We offer solutions for optimising theproduction process and provide answers to questions concerningenvironmental protection, the certification of building materials and management systems, and training. Our customers are manufacturers of cement and construction materials, and construction companies in Europe andincreasingly worldwide. At the same time we are engaged in numerous research projects at both European and national level. We cooperate closely with ECRA, theEuropean Cement Research Academy, and are supporting ECRA's planned construction of the first carbon capture industrial-scale cement kiln. We currently employ around 195 qualified staff members.
To strengthen our research activities we are looking for a Research Funding Project Manager (m/f) based at our institute in Duesseldorf and with frequentpresence in Brussels.
Responsibilities/job description:
  • Follow EU and German research programmes and explore funding opportunities for various research activities along the value chain of cement and concrete. 
  • In particular, coordinate and administrate ECRA’s carbon capture project with regard to potential funding through the European Innovation Fund
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant funding organisations and cooperate on behalf of ECRA with SPIRE, the European PPP for sustainable process industries, and CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association
  • Assist the establishment of research consortia and manage cooperation within these consortia
  • Initiate new research projects, supervise their application for funding and administrate technical and financial reporting
Profile/skills and experience:
  • Profound knowledge of EU research funding schemes and procedures
  • Proven track record in applying for EU research funding and administrating respective research projects and consortia
  • Excellent communication skills and excellent command of written and spoken English and German
  • Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary teamof researchers and in international research consortia
  • Willingness to relocate to Dusseldorf and travel to meetings of the research consortia and funding-related meetings
  • Open-minded and highly motivated towards innovativeand new developments in process industries
