The EUI has a vacancy for one or more Research Assistants in the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. 
Reference number: RSC8/2018 (please quote in all correspondence).

Department: Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies
Length of contract and % of full-time: Starting asap for initially up to twelve months.
The contract can be renewed; from 7/30th (approx. 25%) to full time, depending on availability.
Salary indication: Can be provided upon request in relation to the desired percentage of work. More information about conditions of employment is available here.

Place of work: Florence.

Director of project: Prof. Brigid Laffan and Prof. Rainer Bauböck
Title of project: Two projects of the Global Citizenship Observatory GlobalCit:

1. EU-CITIZEN: Academic Network to perform research services on issues pertaining to Citizenship of the Union rights and related policies
2. FAIREU: Fostering Awareness, Inclusion and Recognition of EU mobile citizens’ Political Rights

Job description:

The research assistant(s) will support the Director of GlobalCit in the implementation of the projects.
The tasks will be, inter alia:

  • Drafting a questionnaire and report template for national experts
  • Collecting information and data from GLOBALCIT partners about political participation by EU citizens
  • Managing selected country case studies together with national experts
  • Drafting a synthesis report



  • PhD degree or late stage in a doctoral programme in Law or Political Science
  • Profound knowledge of EU citizenship, nationality law and electoral rights in Europe

Advantageous: Specific expertise on political participation, including voter registration and electoral turnout
Languages: A very good level of written and spoken English (C-level) is compulsory. A good knowledge (B-level) of other EU languages will constitute an advantage.
