Vacancy – Project manager - Liberation Route Europe Foundation

Brussels office


Liberation Route Europe is a continuously growing, international remembrance trail that connects important milestones from modern European history. It forms a link between the main regions along the Western Allied Forces’ advance from England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, as well as Italy.

It is a unique project which combine historical content development with a multi-perspective approach, remembrance tourism activities and memory transmission tools at an international level.

The project is developed by the Liberation Route Europe Foundation which works with local/regional/national governments, universities, museums, tourism organizations, veterans associations, commemorative events organizers etc.  

As a network, the LRE Foundation is responsible for the development of a large-scale international campaign for the 75th anniversary of the end of the war (2019-2020).

The Foundation has two offices: in the Netherlands (currently Elst, Utrecht from 1-3-2018) as well as in Belgium (Brussels).


Under the direct supervision of the management directors of the LRE Foundation, the Project Manager will be in charge of the following tasks:

  • Network development and account management
  • Strengthening the effort of the LRE’s development, including more countries and regions into the network and the project;
  • Adding new members of the Foundation (regional/local governments, museums, tourism organisation etc.);
  • Manage this growing network and the member organizations, by organising projects and dedicated activities;
  • Expand the partners’ network with relevant organizations.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Foundation;
  • Represent the LRE at events, conferences etc.

Project management

  • Co-manage the development of the 75th anniversary campaign, as the biggest project undertaken by the LRE Foundation, with a wide range of tasks (partnership development, sponsorship and fundraising, online platform development, communication and promotion campaign, events etc.) for which the project manager will take the lead or support other team members involved.
  • Manage other projects, including European projects, in coordination with international partners.
  • Build strategies and vision for the longer term development of the LRE and its expansion internationally.
  • The Liberation Route Europe is in constant development since its creation, which makes this initiative a very exciting challenge.


We are looking for a highly motivated project manager with:

  • An advanced degree-level education in a relevant field to this job description ;
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management and international network development;
  • Excellent command of English and French (both written and oral). Knowledge of Dutch, German, Polish and/or Italian language is an advantage ;
  • Proven experience in non profit organisations and/or fundraising is an advantage;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Excellent project management skills ;
  • Proactive, team player and good interpersonal skills ;
  • Ability to approach work from a creative and innovative standpoint ;
  • Flexible work attitude ;
  • Self-starter and autonomous in his/her work ;
  • Able to respect deadlines and tight timing with great attention to detail.
