Besides its headquarters based in Brussels, B&S also has permanent regional offices in, Beirut, Pristina and Bucharest and representative offices in more than 10 countries. The company employs more than 40 full-time staff and relies on a trustworthy and well experienced network of in-house and external experts to carry out the implementation of projects.

Job Purpose

B&S Europe is looking for two (2) Project Assistants to support the Global Value Chain Unit (GVC-U), part of B&S’s Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Department (ACP-D) in all tasks related to the acquisition, management and implementation of projects and studies through a proactive and committed attitude in line with our company values.


Reporting to the Project Managers of the GVC-U, the Project Assistant(s) will have the following responsibilities:

1. Support the management of global value chain and trade-related projects/studies in developing and least-developed countries, with a focus on results-based management.

2. Strengthen the GVC-U’s functions and ensure that GVC-U’s projects achieve results in an efficient, effective and sustainable manner:

  • Directly contribute to ongoing projects by developing research products in the field of international trade and industrial policy. This may include research and analysis of trade and production data, firm level data and of country level socio-economic data;
  • Contribute to key initiatives by providing backstopping support, e.g.: search and evaluation of thematic experts; management and filing of invoices and other administrative documents; budget management; evaluation and tailoring of CVs; drafting of Terms of Reference etc.;
  • Assist with the GVC-U’s ongoing and future projects from an operational perspective, e.g.: developing project schedules, reviewing technical inputs, drafting project notes, preparing project status reports;
  • Monitor service delivery and project implementation with clients: establish and maintain external relations with partners and clients; support project delivery and reporting; monitoring and implementation of the project activities, financial and administrative management etc.;
  • Identify and follow-up of potential business opportunities;
  • Undertake any other administrative and/or data management activities as required.

3. Perform any other tasks a) as required by Senior Management and b) based on the evolving priorities of the GVC-U.

Qualifications and profile

  • Recent graduate or advanced student in Political Science, Economics, Geopolitics and Trade (similar degrees may be considered);
  • Proven interest in the field of international cooperation and development;
  • Demonstrated experience (through internships or final academic papers) concerning the methods for research in social sciences (qualitative and quantitative data analysis) ;
  • Fluent oral and drafting skills in English. Fluency in French is an asset and required for one of the two positions. Any other language will be considered as an asset;
  • Capacity to work well within a team;
  • Capacity for independent decision-making and taking initiative;
  • Proven organizational skills; capacity to communicate on processes;
  • Computer skills: MS Office (Excel Word Power Point) and knowledge of online databases;
  • Capacity to manage time effectively, organise tasks and prioritise workloads;

Previous experience working for international organisations/institutions is considered as an asset


This is a full time position for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of an extension of the contract according to performance, starting in September 2020, in Brussels; internship allowance is 600€ per month.
