Job Description

The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) is a biennial interdisciplinary conference organized by Euroscience, a pan-European association of research professionals, science administrators, policy-makers, PhD students, post-docs, industrialists and corporate members. ESOF aims to present scientific and technological developments at the cutting edge and to foster a European dialogue on science and technology, society and policy, and science policy. It attracts several thousand people.

We are looking for an ESOF Programme Director who will head the newly established ESOF Secretariat based at the Euroscience Headquarters in Strasbourg. This unit will supplement the existing organisational structure of changing local organising teams in the respective ESOF host city. Its establishment is made possible through the support of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Compagnia di San Paolo, the Fondazione Cariplo, the Stiftelsen Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.

The Programme Director will primarily be responsible for ensuring consistency and continuity in the planning, execution, delivery and evaluation of successive ESOFs by working closely with the local ESOF Champion. Further tasks include international fundraising and media relations, the management of the ESOF committees and the administration of the host city selection process. Qualifications and skills include:
- Master’s level or above in a science-related discipline
- at least 5 years of professional work experience in event management (e.g. large conferences) and/or communications, preferably within the science sector
- High standard in written and spoken English; proficiency in another European language
- Excellent administrative, project management and entrepreneurial skills
- Experience in fundraising, and/or initiating and maintaining good relations with sponsors/supporters
- Excellent diplomacy skills
- Experience of managing people and budgets
- Demonstrable enthusiasm for science
The full-time position is available for 48 months. An extension may be possible.
