EARTO is the Association of Research and Technology Organisations, representing 350 RTOs throughout Europe. EARTO’s goals are to present RTOs as key EU Research & Innovation actors, to ensure that the EU framework conditions are favourable and to ensure RTOs’ access to funding from EU programmes.

EARTO is offering a position for a 6-month internship (starting date: 7 January 2019). The intern will mainly support the team of Policy Officers with research and analysis on EARTO topics of interest, will monitor institutional, corporate and press websites, will brief notes on selected issues for internal and external use and will attend meetings and conferences in Brussels. The intern will also take part in the preparation of EARTO Working Groups meetings and EARTO events.

Job description

Policy work

  • Monitoring developments of EU programmes related to research & innovation (especially Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe)
  • Monitoring EU press and websites
  • Attending EARTO Working Groups and taking minutes
  • Help designing and writing the EARTO newsletter
  • Attending events in Brussels and reporting
  • Writing notes, briefings, memos both for internal and external use
  • Preparing Policy Officers’ or Secretary General’s meetings with EU officials

Events organisation

  • Assisting our Policy team with the 8 EARTO Working Groups: coordination with members, meetings preparation, logistics
  • Assisting in the preparation of other events

Office management

  • Assisting our Administrative and Communication Assistant with the daily office management
  • Updating databases

Your profile

  • You hold a university or university-level degree or are in the process of completion
  • You have an interest in EU public affairs, communications and lobbying
  • Fluent in English. French or other language is an asset
  • Knowledge of Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Available for 6 months (to be discussed)


  • Internship contract under Belgian law called “contrat d’immersion professionnelle” (around 700€)
  • Lunch vouchers “Tickets restaurants”: 7€/day
  • Transport in Brussels fully refunded (STIB subscription)

  • A short test will be done in-house during the interview: summarising a document in English in a short PowerPoint including an Excel graph
