CESAER is the European association of doctorate-granting specialised and comprehensive universities of science and technology that champion excellence in higher education, training, research and innovation, influence debate, contribute to the realisation of open knowledge societies and deliver significant scientific, economic, social and societal impact.

We seek a : Policy Advisor

to start as soon as possible working fulltime at our Secretariat.

Core responsibilities

  • contribute to the aims and activities of our association
  • promote our association as stakeholder at European level
  • represent our association externally
  • serve and advise our governing bodies, committees and task forces

Examples of tasks

  • gather intelligence and provide high-quality and targeted information
  • initiate and contribute to positions of Members and decision-making
  • participate in and organise events and report thereon
  • initiate, monitor and support new strategies and activities
  • coordinate, liaise with and lobby activities of members at national and European institutions and stakeholder level

Essential requirements

  • master degree
  • knowledge and experience in European policy-making processes and institutions
  • excellent oral and written communication and relationship building skills
  • ability to deliver high-quality results under pressure and working autonomously as well as in a small team
  • fluency, both spoken and written, in English and at least one other language widely spoken in Europe
  • excellent IT and social media skills
  • willingness to travel within Europe and beyond and work in non-office times such as evenings and weekends
  • excellent investigative skills
  • distinct integrity, loyalty and service- and result-orientation
  • legal entitlement to work in EU

Desirable requirements

  • experience with membership-based organisations and universities of science and technology
  • two years relevant working experience
  • network in European science and technology
  • knowledge of European research, education and innovation policies and funding programmes and related lobbying
  • experience of working with senior university leaders, senior academics and policy makers in an international context
  • track record in writing and editing articles, reports and policy papers
