PARALEGAL - MULTIPLE PRACTISE AREAS

THE ROLE 

As a Paralegal within DLA Piper, you will be responsible for providing legal and administrative support to Partners and Associates in the Litigation & Regulatory, IPT and/or other practise areas in our Brussels office. You will assist fee earners to undertake tasks in a timely and effective manner. As this is based in Belgium it is essential that candidates have a good understanding of Belgian law.

This role will be an excellent opportunity for a Paralegal to join a busy and dynamic practice, working on a variety of files with high profile clients.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researching and preparing legal documents
  • Preparation of documents and submission for trademark proceedings, including application refusal review, opposition and invalidation/cancellation proceedings
  • Management and administration of client documents and evidence for on-going use in trademark and copyright proceedings
  • Statutory filing with government bodies for the EU entities
  • Trademark portfolio management
  • Proof reading documents
  • Preparing drafts for tenders/offers
  • Maintain and complete legal forms with meticulous attention to accuracy
  • You will be required to do legal translation work in Dutch, English and or French
  • Preparation of documents, paperwork and other formalities for filing purposes
  • Assisting with legal and commercial research
  • Maintain organised record within the firms contract management systems
  • Preparing client summaries and reports, including reports on trademark portfolios
  • Maintain corporate governance records for the firms, European entities
  • Providing updated client information for database management
  • Working closely with Marketing & Business Development, Knowledge Management, Finance, HR, GSC, and other departments

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES    

  • Ideally obtained a Master's degree in law (minimum a Bachelor in law)
  • Preferably knowledge of Belgian law
  • Perfect spoken and written English, preferably also Dutch and/or French
  • Relevant experience would be an advantage
  • Attention to detail
  • High level of personal responsibility
  • Team player, capable of working independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Reliable, flexible, self-motivated and willing to embrace change
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
