Background:
EURACTIV is an independent pan-European media network specialised in EU policies. We spark and nourish policy debates among stakeholders, including government, business and civil society. We cover policy processes upstream of decisions, summarising the issues without taking sides.
 
The EURACTIV Network provides free localised EU policy news in 13 languages. Together with our media partners, we reach over 1.7 million users across Europe and beyond, every month. With 2,5 million page views and over 1 million unique readers per month, EURACTIV is a leader among online media specialised in EU policy. We address 80% of our readers in their own language.
 
EURACTIV has an original business model, based on five elements (corporate sponsoring, Euractor membership, advertising, EU projects, and content syndication). It is well funded and the content usage is free.
EURACTIV is looking for an experienced English language news editor for coordinating, developing, editing, and publishing news stories dealing with European politics and policies for the 5am to 3pm shift. We are looking to fill the position as soon as possible, ideally from January. The editor will play a key role in driving the publication of EURACTIV’s flagship morning newsletter The Capitals. 
The editor, who will be an independent contractor, should have several years of experience in dealing with EU affairs and be reasonably familiar with EU sectoral policies like energy, agriculture, health, or digital affairs.
The editor will have an opportunity to bring news from the European capitals to our audience in Brussels and beyond, helping create a bridge between the national media landscape and EU-level news coverage. 
 
Requirements:
  • -/+ 5 years of experience in journalism, experience as section/associate editor is an asset;
  • good knowledge of EU policies, legislation, institutions;
  • native level of written and spoken English, any other EU language is an asset;
  • ability to work under time pressure and multi-task;
  • ability to spot patterns and trends across the European political arena;
  • demonstrated experience in team management and building;
  • ability to work with different teams across borders, as part of EURACTIV's network;
  • experience in multimedia, mobile and/or data journalism is a plus;
  • commitment to factual and linguistic accuracy, details.
