With members in local public social services across Europe, we bring together the people who are key to the design and delivery of vital care and support services, to learn from each other, and contribute their experience and expertise to building effective social policy at the European and national level. 

About the role

The European Social Network (ESN) is looking for a Membership and Operations Officer (full-time) to join our Secretariat from August 2018. The post holder will have a strategic role in the wider development of the Network to contribute to its financial sustainability by developing and retaining membership and new partnerships. To fulfil these duties, the post-holder will work with the CEO in the development of data and partnerships for the annual conference; with the policy officers on aligning the membership to the annual work programme; with the communications and marketing coordinator on the promotion of membership development including branding as well as on data development and CRM development.

Job Description

Plan, manage and implement ESN’s membership and partnership strategy by:

  1. strengthening ESN’s existing membership base and ensuring that a viable membership retention strategy is implemented;
  2. expanding the coverage of ESN partnerships, connecting with potential new members and partners, thereby ensuring that year-long membership targets are met, and new opportunities are developed.

Specific tasks

  • Developing new membership and partnership opportunities
  • Developing and strengthening relationships with ESN members to ensure that we are promoting and engaging with each other’s activities
  • Supporting and maintaining effective administration and financial systems to ensure the correct, efficient and smooth delivery of ESN’s policy, practice and research annual work programme.
  • Developing membership and partnership materials and contributing to ESN member communications
  • Keeping up to date and producing reports with records of members and partners participation and contributions in the directory and database

Person specification

  • Experience working with a membership organisation
  • Experience working with customer relations management systems (e.g. Salesforce, CIVI CRM) 
  • A clear understanding of the importance of a database and its potential for the development of a membership organisation                  
  • Organised and able to keep a detailed record of members data using a customer relations management system such as Salesforce or CIVI CRM
  • Project management experience with coordination, budget management, implementation and reporting skills
  • Ability to identify risks in programme implementation and good problem-solving skills to ensure timely delivery within budget
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial and open-minded approach to membership and partnership development            
  • Ability to adapt to different work approaches, settings and languages        
  • Cultural and political sensitivity in relations with internal colleagues, national members, partners and external stakeholders 
  • Near-native written and oral competence in English, plus fluency in at least one other European language        
  • University degree
  • Business development experience is desirable

Salary and Conditions

Salary is competitive in the range of 3,000€-3,400€ gross per month commensurate with experience. Benefits include pension, travel reimbursement and lunch vouchers. Holiday allowance is 20 days on a pro-rata basis (accrued according to Belgian legislation and rising with the length of service) plus bank holidays and additional days over Christmas period. We support staff in their professional development. Opportunities for training are regularly discussed with the line manager, and we provide regular performance review with opportunities for further training in line with responsibilities.
