The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is the world’s largest organization of healthcare professionals dedicated to fighting heart disease. It helps more than 90,000 cardiologists from 150 countries expand the boundaries of cardiovascular medicine so people can lead longer, healthier lives.The ESC publishes a dozen scientific journals, an array of textbooks and the latest clinical practice guidelines. It provides continuing medical education through webinars and classroom courses, and hosts the summit of cardiovascular science each August - ESC Congress - which attracts 31,000 heart specialists and delivers over 4,500 of the latest abstracts.

The ESC  - www.Escardio.Org -- is recruiting a Media / Press Relations Coordinator for a permanent, full-time position based on the Cote' d'Azur, in the South of France, starting as soon as possible. In this role, you will be fulfilling the following main tasks:

  • ensure regular media coverage in favor of the ESC, its brand, its activities and its results.
  • help the ESC further enhance its reputation as the leader in cardiovascular medicine.
  • develop partnerships with media representatives (medical and general press), and with the ESC Press Committee and designated spokespersons.

To achieve this, you will:

  • Participate in the development of press relations strategy (with the Committee referring cardiologists in the field), integrated and aligned with the overall strategy of the Society.
  • Coordinate the information and resources to the creation and publication of press releases throughout the year and especially during the ESC Congress.
  • Write clear, concise, compelling press releases on tight deadlines. 
  • Edit, validate, publish and distribute press releases to appropriate media.
  • Measure and analyze the impact of the spread.
  • Maintain the annual planning of press operations.
  • Organise media training for identified spokespersons.
  • Develop and maintain a network with key journalists in support of ESC activities.
  • Handle the secretariat of the ESC Press Committee:
  • Prepare and follow up meetings
  • Ensure that all support is provided to the Chairman of the Media Committee and that all coordinators are active in defined projects.
  • Actively participate in meetings as a press expert
  • Manage the annual budget of the Press Office


  • A relevant academic background e.g. A Bachelor's degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of media relations experience
  • Analysis and dissemination of complex information
  • Good knowledge of the healthcare industry and non-profit organisations in the health sector
  • Excellent knowledge of public relations and strategic communication
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, budget management skills, proven expertise in crisis management, mediation and negotiation of complex or contentious issues and extensive experience in management are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate various stakeholders to deliver projects
  • Experience in events organization is a plus
  • Your English is fluent, at a minimum
  • Your availability for several trips abroad per year is expected.
