About Metal Packaging Europe

Metal Packaging Europe ( is a Brussels-based industry association, which brings together more than 200 manufacturers and their national associations, to promote the benefits of rigid metal packaging at European level. We are passionate about sustainability and our products play a crucial role in helping to reach the objectives outlined in the Circular Economy and EU Green Deal. Made from a permanent material and with recycling rates reaching 76% for Aluminium cans and just under 83% for steel cans, metal packaging has a very positive story to tell.

About the role:

We are looking for a full-time Manager European Affairs who will join the small team at MPE and will lead the European Affairs Working Group.

Your tasks will include:

  • Developing and implementing pan-EU advocacy strategies on files of relevance to the metal packaging industry;
  • Representing the industry during EU/Member States decision-maker's meetings/events and other stakeholders’ meetings/events;
  • Reaching out to officials of the European Commission, MEPs, Member States’ representation offices in Brussels;
  • Monitoring political and regulatory developments;
  • Drafting position papers and preparing advocacy material;
  • Designing and executing relevant events as appropriate;
  • Supporting national associations on regulatory dossiers, where appropriate.


  • A minimum of 5 to 8 years of professional experience in a European affairs/similar role (in-house, agency, trade association, etc.);
  • Proven experience working on packaging and waste legislation, the Circular Economy and the EU Green Deal;
  • Overall knowledge about the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability is an asset;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Ability to develop and communicate policy positions clearly and concisely;
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills;
  • Good leadership skills and ability to reach consensus between diverging positions;
  • Strategic and analytical thinker;
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and handle multiple priorities;
  • Intercultural and diplomatic skills;
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Full professional proficiency in English. Fluency in other EU languages an asset;
  • Willingness to travel for business.
