The Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking (IMI JU) is a public-private partnership between the European Commission and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries Associations (EFPIA). The IMI JU is established in Brussels under European law1 for a period up to 31 December 2017. The IMI JU will implement a Joint Technology Initiative aiming to establish Europe (Member States and countries associated to the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities) as the most attractive place for biopharmaceutical research and development.

Post and Duties
The Legal Manager shall be responsible for all legal aspects related to the IMI JU:
· Dealing with all legal issues within the Joint Undertaking;
· Establishing, following and updating the contracts of IMI JU
· Monitoring the implementation of applicable rules, regulations and procedures within IMI;
· Ensuring, as data protection officer, the implementation of and compliance with the legal principles governing the processing of personal data provided by Regulation (EC) 45/2001 and keeping register of all the processing operations on personal data carried out by IMI JU.
· Advising on matters related to the implementation of Intellectual Property Rights policy;
· Advising management on the validity and conformity of procedures with the standing rules and regulations;
· Supervising grant award and procurement procedures;
· Legally supervising the management of grant award decisions and procurement contracts and establish all necessary procedures;
· Improving the quality and consistency of IMI’s output from a legal standpoint;
· Providing and obtaining legal analysis and advice in support of RTD policies in the given field;
· Preparing replies to legal interpretation requests and legal analysis and advice inside the Joint Undertaking in support of the preparation and implementation of the IMI programme and actions;
· Advising the Executive Director and the Executive Office on possible litigation risks and contribute to find solutions to avoid litigation;
· Follow-up of litigation, in collaboration with the Commission’s services such as the Legal service, the Ombudsman and OLAF;
· Contributing to the production of reports and plans, as well as, manuals for management on legal and procedural issues;
· Establishing the contract and decision models.
The candidates must have:
- Proven experience in the tasks described above;
- Good background in and knowledge of Community law;
- Knowledge or experience in the area of intellectual property;
- Knowledge or experience in the field of data protection
- Good oral, written communication skills;
- Very good command of written and spoken English
- Good negotiation skills;
- Good inter-personal communication skills;
- Capacity to work in a team in a European, multicultural and multilingual context, and to build and maintain efficient networking within and outside the IMI Joint Undertaking;
- High level of flexibility and strong sense of responsibility, initiative and self-motivation;
It will be an asset if he/she has:
- Experience in the application of Community law;
- Litigation experience
Eligibility criteria
By the closing of this call candidates must:
· Be nationals of one of the Member States of the EU and enjoy full rights as citizens.
· Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma followed by proven working experience of at least nine years, including at least three in a field related to the post.
· Have thorough knowledge of, at least, one official language of the EU and a satisfactory knowledge of another to the extent necessary to perform the duties of the post. As the predominant language of internal communication in the JU will be the English, ability to communicate in that language is an assessment criterion for all profiles.
· Produce the appropriate character references as to their suitability for the performance of duties of the post.
· Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service.
· Be fit to perform the duties linked to the post.
Selection criteria
Essential:
- Minimum professional experience of nine years, including at least three year in a field related to the duties;
- Knowledge in the field related to the duties;
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector;
- Knowledge of EU institutions and policies;
- Very good command of written and spoken English;
- Ability to use electronic office tools (word processing, spreadsheets, email, Internet, etc.);
- Ability to work in a team, under pressure, and in a multicultural environment;
- Good analytical ability and communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Advantageous:
- Professional experience of more than one year in a field relevant to the position acquired after the completion of studies referred to in the eligibility criteria;
- Knowledge of the scope and aims of the IMI JU;
- Other qualifications in addition to the minimum mentioned under the eligibility criteria;

Remuneration
The successful applicant who is offered a contract of employment will be graded on entry into service in step 1 or step 2 of the relevant grade, according to the length of his/her professional experience. The basis monthly salaries of AD 8, as of 1 July 2007 are:
