European Schoolnet (EUN) is a not for profit organisation funded by education ministries in Europe dedicated to:
o Supporting schools in bringing about the best use of technology in learning
o Promoting the European dimension in schools and education
o Improving and raising the quality of education in Europe
More specifically European Schoolnet aims at:
o Fostering and supporting collaboration and cooperation among schools in Europe
o Making available to schools in Europe pedagogical and information services with a European added value
o Supporting the professional development of teachers.
o Contributing to the development of technology-enhanced learning in schools
o Disseminating examples of good practices and investigating new models for schooling and learning
o Providing services, content and tools based on new information and communication technologies to members and partner networks and to facilitate the development of a common approach towards standards and interoperability.
European Schoolnet (EUN) is currently looking for a Java Development Team Leader to join our Technical team and take the technical leadership on the development of educational websites and communities. Project managers have the overall responsibility of different EUN educational projects. The team leader works in close collaboration with the project managers and is in charge of the technical development part of these projects.
General description
The Team Leader is expected to carry out the following tasks:
• Ensure the successful implementation of the various projects by the technical team.
• Define and apply the technical project management methodology.
• Authenticate the requirements to determine the scope of the technical development of a project and estimate schedule and budget.
• Take part in defining and implementing the technical solution
• Translate the project requirements into specific objectives for the technical team members allocated to the project.
• Continuously monitor the project's technical progress and take responsibility in the event of a problem, to intervene and correct it.
• Inform the project manager of the technical developments progress, any problems encountered and potential risks.
• Provide reports, in close collaboration with the management
• Act as a technical reference for the development team
Required skills
Technical skills:
• Professional experience in a project management (minimum 3 years).
• Knowledge and experience of Project Management methodologies, e.g. PMI and software
• Good understanding of object-orientation (OO programming concepts, UML, design patterns)
• Good methodology skills (SVN, ANT, Unit testing)
• Excellent knowledge of Java (J2EE, Web Technologies, Portlets); knowledge of Liferay or similar portal container is an asset
• Excellent knowledge of database technologies (Oracle)
• Good knowledge of XML and Web Services technologies

The person appointed will be experienced in a similar position and have worked at senior level. He/she will have a knowledge of the educational use of ICT, be fluent in both spoken and written English and, ideally, other languages. Above all he/she will have an outstanding track record in managing large scale projects and distributed teams. The position demands a high level of technical skills, a high degree of personal commitment and flexibility, and highly developed skills in personal relations.

Remuneration is by negotiation and is commensurate with the responsibility. Duties commence ideally at the beginning of December 2009 (but it can be negotiated according to the availability of the selected candidate).
The ideal candidate will be offered a full time contract (after a 6 month probation period) and a remuneration package based on market’s current value, meal vouchers, training opportunities and the possibility to telecommute occasionally.
