About the EFC
The European Foundation Centre (www.efc.be) is an international association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to:
•    Creating an enabling legal and fiscal environment for foundations
•    Documenting the foundation landscape
•    Strengthening the infrastructure of the sector
•    Promoting collaboration, both among foundations and between foundations and other actors
The EFC activities in the disability field are aimed to promote and support philanthropy in this field by increasing awareness of foundation and corporate support in this area; strengthening the exchange of knowledge and good practice; facilitating networking and partnerships among stakeholders; enhancing the foundations community’s knowledge, skills and effectiveness in the field; and mobilising stakeholders for further action.

About this position
The main role of the intern will be to contribute to the activities and initiatives developed in the field of disability, including the European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability as well as the Interest Group on Disability Issues and the Social Economy Europe’s Group on Disability. In addition, he/she will also be involved in other general EFC activities.

Job tasks are wide ranging. In addition to general administrative work, the person will actively assist and participate in the following tasks:
•    Identifying foundation and corporate donors' grantmaking activities and programmes in the disability field, at national, European and international level fields;
•    Monitoring trends, relevant resources and actors in these fields;
•    Keeping track of key policy developments at EU level (EU institutions) and exploring possibilities for funders to provide input and create partnerships with EU institutions;
•    Conducting information research on specific anti-discrimination-related topics;
•    Helping to develop, keep up-to-date and promote the information and communication tools available (databases, web-based information, EFC periodicals, etc.);
•    Developing and maintaining the news systems developed in the framework of the Disability Project, and in particular in the drafting of the interest groups’ newsletters
•    Assisting in the organisation and follow-up of events and meetings (management of logistics and the preparation of the meetings dossiers and proceedings, etc.);
•    Helping with organisation of relevant sessions of the Annual General Assembly (AGA) and Conference in 2010;
•    Assisting in the development of any of the Interest Groups’ initiatives or any other EFC initiative in the disability field;
•    Attending meetings organised by the EFC and other organisations (EU institutions, umbrella organisations, etc.);
•    Responding to requests of information.

Skills required
•    Excellent knowledge (oral and written) of English and Spanish (any other language will be an asset);
•    Knowledge of  the disability field and/or philanthropy;
•    University degree in the social science area (especially in law or political sciences);
•    Sound knowledge of the European Union structure and basic understanding of the UN system;
•    Excellent organisational, communication and writing skills
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, FrontPage, PowerPoint
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•    Enthusiastic, flexible and creative
•    Ability to work under pressure and to deal with multiple priorities
•    Outgoing person, with a committed and sensible attitude towards work

Internship period: 12 months, starting in October 2009. Please note that there is a trial period of 3 months.
Stipend will be decided according to the successful candidate’s profile.
