Climate & Energy Policy Internship

The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) is looking to recruit a highly motivated intern to join its team in Brussels for 6 months.

Main tasks: Support the Climate and Energy team by reporting to the Policy Analyst in charge of Climate & Energy and Transport policy

Starting date: September 2019, up to 6 months (approximately)

Deadline for application: July 31st, 2019 (applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so do not wait the last day to apply)

Contract: A university training agreement is compulsory. Please note that the CPMR is not able to offer a paid internship but interested applicants may ask for an Erasmus+ internship grant.

1) Provide support to the Climate & Energy team by carrying out the following tasks:

  • Policy monitoring and support in the analysis of key EU climate and energy legislation and developments;
  • Attend and report on external events organised by European institutions, CPMR Member Regions and other stakeholders;
  • Gather information on CPMR member regions strategies, policies and EU funded projects related to climate and energy issues with a major focus on adaptation;
  • Follow-up of the MFF negotiations on climate issues and of the international climate debate with a focus on COP 25 and COP 26;
  • Dissemination of CPMR work in Climate & Energy through the social media, articles and newsletter in cooperation with the Communication team;
  • Logistic support to the CPMR, notably help organising relevant meetings, seminars and missions (including mailings and calls to members, speakers and partners);
  • Other ad-hoc activities that might be identified during the internship (based on the needs of the CPMR team).

2) Qualifications and skills required

  • Be enrolled or have a university degree in a relevant area (Public Policies, European Affairs, Political Science, etc.);
  • Fluency in English and a working proficiency in a second EU language. A working proficiency in French, Greek, Italian, Spanish or Swedish constitutes an advantage;
  • Interest and knowledge in Climate and/or Energy issues (but also solutions!);
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A good sense of humour and be a team-player.

The CPMR is a unique organisation, being sub-divided into six Geographical Commissions, corresponding to the European maritime basins, such as the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Atlantic Arc, the Mediterranean, the Balkan and Black Sea and the islands.
