The Secretariat of European Association for the Defence of Human Rights (AEDH)  is currently offering an internship in Asylum and migration for a 5 or 6 month period from September 2017 to February 2018.

The European association for the defence of Human Rights gathers 32 member organisations in 23 EU Member States and in Switzerland. Founded in 2000, the association defends and promotes human rights in the European Union. AEDH informs and alerts its members and citizens on European and national policies that have an impact on human rights. It represents a network of human rights activists and experts and gives them a voice at a European level. AEDH strengthens human rights organisations and supports European civil society. It finally carries out advocacy actions addressed to the European Institutions and the Member States. AEDH is mainly acting on the respect of the right to asylum and the rights of migrants, privacy right and personal data protection, non-discrimination and minority rights, economic, social and cultural rights, gender equality and citizenship and democracy.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Monitoring relevant European policies related to AEDH’s main areas of work
  • Monitoring relevant political developments on the national level and debates and initiatives of AEDH member associations 
  • Attending relevant events in Brussels and take notes
  • Researching work and draft small reports and synthesis
  • Providing support to the organisation of AEDH’s events
  • Contributing to the AEDH’s newsletter
  • Assisting with translations
  • Supporting to general administrative tasks

Areas of work

  •  Asylum and Migration

Skills and profile:

  • Students in political science, European studies, international relations; first degree is an important asset (any other subject will be considered if the candidate fulfils the criteria below) 
  • Good knowledge of EU institutions, the EU decision-making process and European politics
  • Previous experience in the field of human rights and/or European politics is an asset
  • Excellent English or French (native speaker or equivalent); fluency in the other language (English or French); knowledge of any additional European languages is an asset
  • Strong communication, research and drafting skills
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office package
