For further information about the association:  


  • Handicap International is looking for a bright and enthusiastic trainee to assist the advocacy team,
  • with a focus on international inclusive development.
  • You will join the Advocacy and Institutional Relations Unit (AIR) at Handicap International, office in Paris. This unit coordinates, organizes, manages and implements the activities related to advocacy at Handicap International.
  • You will work under the under the distance supervision of your mentor, the Deputy Director for Advocacy, based in Brussels. You will also liaise with the other AIR team members based in Paris, and Brussels.


General objective: Support the implementation of the advocacy objectives in the area of inclusive development, with a focus on the promotion of global health.

Main learning objectives:

  • You will be able to strengthen you understanding of global policy processes on international development in general, road safety and global health, and the diverse actors involved.
  • You will be able to improve your skills for policy research and analysis, advocacy and communication as well as your organizational and process management skills.
  • You will be able to gain an understanding of the ways of working of a busy NGO, in an international, multicultural environment.

Your main tasks are:

  • Assisting with the preparation of advocacy strategies: preparing stakeholders analysis; policy processes mapping; coordinating inputs from HI internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitoring policy developments in the areas of SDGs, CRPD, road safety, rehabilitation, global health, and preparing policy briefs and updates for HI internal and external communications channels
  • Assisting with the preparation for and reporting on the participation of Handicap International in international conferences and events: preparing background notes, blog articles, twitter, writing speeches, etc
  • Assisting with the organization of advocacy events : agenda setting, communication with participants and partners, preparation of materials (invitation, report, flyer, media pack)
  • Managing and updating policy makers and stakeholders databases, and researching on possible new contacts relevant to HI
  • Assisting with our fundraising initiatives: preparing fundraising concept notes and project proposals
  • Participating in relevant conferences, seminars and workshops, and NGO coordination groups in Coordination Sud and other networks

We work in English mainly, as well as in French.


ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT : You must have a mandatory training agreement issued by a French educational or training institution (convention de stage).

  • Master Degree, preferably in development, global health, political sciences or international relations studies
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Capacity to analyse and synthesize information
  • Very good writing skills in English
  • Self-organized and attention to details
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others and towards shared objectives
  • Interest in the voluntary sector
