THE CTA BRUSSELS OFFICE IS RECRUITING AN INTERN ON COMMUNICATION AND AGRIBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

What is the CTA? (http://www.cta.int)

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) was established in 1983 under the Lomé Convention between the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) Group of States and the European Union Member States. Since 2000, it has operated within the framework of the ACP-EC Cotonou Agreement. CTA three strategic goals are:

  • strengthening ACP agricultural and rural development policy processes and strategies;
  • enhancing priority agricultural value chains; and
  • enhancing ACP capacities in information, communication and knowledge management (ICKM) for agricultural and rural development.

Who are the beneficiaries of CTA?

  • CTA services address stakeholders in the agricultural sector and in rural areas (researchers, policy-makers, farmers, NGO’s, civil society groups, private sector…) in the 80 ACP countries. To this end CTA works with the major partner organisations (international, regional and national policy bodies and research institutions).
  • CTA headquarters are in Wageningen (the Netherlands) with an office in Brussels.

Role for the CTA Brussels office

  • Liaising with the ACP and EU institutions, joint ACP-EU bodies, international organizations, NGO’s and development groups based in Brussels and involved in the agricultural and rural development
  • Following discussions and reporting on the relevant ACP-EU debates in the agricultural and rural sector (trade and development; fisheries; food security, climate change…)
  • Providing information and support to the CTA headquarters
  • Implementing high-level events on key topical issues in agriculture and trade policy (regular Brussels Briefings) and other high-level event
  • Supporting regional trade and agribusiness projects in the ACP countries, especially linking with smallholder farmers.

What are the required tasks?

1. Brussels ACP-EU policy and agribusiness news

This service provides daily news of importance to the African, Caribbean and Pacific group on EU policies as well on agribusiness. It also generates a weekly newsletter.

Required tasks:

  • Research of news in European and international media of interest to ACP in key areas (policy, agribusiness) of interest to ACP
  • Finding additional sources related to the news for further reading /reference
  • Ensuring the weekly newsletter is sent in English and French (translation is outsourced
  • Updating the calendar of events
  • Promoting the content

2. Brussels Development Briefings

Initiated in 2007, the Brussels Policy Development Briefings are held every two months to facilitate ACP-EU policy-dialogue. The briefings target Brussels-based policy makers and the development community. They aim to share knowledge, promote information sharing on and facilitate networking on key rural development issues amongst the policy community. They complement the technical meetings in countries and regions organised by the CTA and its partners. They are a partnership between CTA, the EC/DEVCO, the ACP Secretariat, the European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development (Concord) and other strategic partners.

Required tasks:

  • Support research on emerging topics in agricultural policies and agribusiness
  • Updating the website with the relevant multimedia information, promotion of content (including through social media
  • Preparing video interviews with experts at Briefings

3. Agribusiness development

The office supports the agribusiness and value chains area and more specifically the agritourism in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), women and youth in agribusiness and linking smallholders to agribusiness.

Required tasks:

Support research and business development in these areas, including project proposal.

The successful candidate should:
  1. Have an excellent knowledge of either English or French and the ability to work in the other language;
  2. Possess a degree in one or more of the following fields: agriculture (any discipline), international relations, trade and agribusiness or related disciplines;
  3. Be proficient in MS office (word, excel, power point) and have experience or strong interest in media and communication;
  4. Have sense of initiative and team spirit as well as able to work without constant supervision;
  5. Demonstrate knowledge in agricultural/agribusiness issues and ACP/ developing countries;
  6. Knowledge of the private sector will be an advantage;
  7. Be national of an EU or ACP country and less than 30 years old.

Employment conditions

A one six month’s renewable contract will be offered from 1st November 2017 (starting date flexible). Monthly allowance of 1000 €. Health insurance coverage is provided as well as monthly transport pass in Brussels.
